Tuesday's (This Week's) Music Picks

Stars I totally lied yesterday when I said I would be back today with six days worth of show listings. I don't know what I was thinking. Between my day job, a pre-Shins happy hour, and then the Shins show, I had no time once again. So here are tonight's shows, and expect me back tomorrow.

As usual, there's lots of exciting things going on tonight. Hippies, Hipsters, and Hip-Hoppers all have something to cheer about. Kool DJ Herc is the founding father of Hip Hop. Help him celebrate his 50th birthday party at Don Hill's. The Jammy Awards are the hippie grammies. This year's Madison Square Garden lineup includes Sinead O'Connor, Les Claypool, Antibalas, Burning Spear, Phil Lesh, and many, many more. Lots of after-parties too.

The hipster event of the evening is happening at Northsix in Brooklyn. It's a benefit concert. All proceeds go to organizations that are trying to put a stop to the genocide happening in Sudan. Stars is headlining. If you haven't heard Stars yet, I highly recommend you check out their latest album, Set Yourself on Fire. Stylus called it "a near-masterpiece of a pop confection." Kevin Devine, Jeffrey Lewis and The Fatales are also on the bill. Tickets are still on sale. (Stars also plays Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night, and Summerstage in August)

Also tonight...

Pianos - Kinetic, Jaymay, Amy Cooper, Au Revoir Simone, JF Maher, Devin Greenwood
Bowery Ballroom - Louis XIV, Runner & The Thermodynamics, Nic Armstrong
Supper Club - Paul Westerberg
BB Kings - Travis Tritt
Maxwell's - Ed Harcourt
Irving Plaza - Erasure, Elkland
Knitting Factory (Main Space)- Unsane, Origin, Dysrhythmia
APT - DJ PeanutButter Wolf
The Delancey - The Kin, Spiraling
Mercury Lounge - The Raveonettes, Mando Diao (early & late shows)
Rothko - Burning Brides, Early Man, The Organ
Knitting Factory - Castanets, Jana Hunter

Is there anything more annoying than a blogger offering excuses about why s/he couldn't post? Your busy life didn't keep you from posting on brooklynvegan. We deserve better than this.

If BV didn't stay busy running around - and, most importantly, writing his site - this column wouldn't be nearly as good, or useful. It works better as a daily thing anyway.

Oh good lord. "We deserve better than this"? Well I'm sure Gothamist will give you a refund. Whatever, Comic Book Guy...
