Private School Kids Steal iPods, Too

Lest you think iPod thieves are your stereotypical thugs, it seems that Emily Wiest, daughter of Oscar winning Woody Allen regular and former Law & Order D.A. Nora Lewin, Dianne Wiest, was arrested along with two friends after beating up a classmate and stealing his iPod and sunglasses. The three girls had gotten into an argument with a 16 year old boy at the Beekman School on East 50th Street and, according to the Post, "plotted to finish the fight that afternoon." They jumped him during recess, beating and kicking him. The police say the victim, who is described as being "scrawny," didn't have any serious injuries, but was bruised and had cuts.

The three girls spent the night in central booking, and if there's anything that one should learn from an episode of Law & Order is "Don't speak!" And other posts about iPod robberies: Central Park, subways.

If this guy can't hold his own with a couple of young girls, he deserves whatever consequences... Disgraceful!

It doesn't say who commented on the boy's physique. I wonder if the tuffy girls called him "scrawny".
Also, since when did 16 year olds have recess? Were they playing kickball on the blacktop or something? At 16 years old I had a more organized phy ed class.

"Went into your locker and I smashed your glasses"

Wow, with all these iPod thefts afflicting Gotham Superman must be sitting on his ass. Maybe he doesn't think it's an important enough crime. In that case, is there a superhero out there who will stop this crime wave? Where is iPod Man when you need him? I hope Steve Jobs is building some robot/superhero in his facilities right now.

wow adrian, you are "cool". i love the sexism.

Re the scrawny comment: actually, the Daily News was quoting an unidentified classmate (its the "didn't have any serious injuries" link).

also, it seems less that they wanted his ipod and more that they wanted to really mess with him -- they took his glasses too, and last i heard those weren't in high demand. it's just that ipod thefts have been in the news lately, so everyone seems to be focusing on that angle.

Also, gotta love the quote from the anonymous classmate:
"I know her. She wouldn't do anything like that," said the classmate, who did not wish to be identified. "She's not the nicest person but she wouldn't beat up someone smaller than her."

the scrawny boy will have years of therapy for this. Not only was he beat up by a gang of girls, but the freudian theft of his pod is emasculating. Even though it's awful I don't recall any recess bullying being handled by the cops when I was a kid. I guess the uptown kids all have attorneys on retainer.

This is good practice for when they grow up and becomes lawyers or CEOs...they can then steal big time.

These kids don't (probably) need the money. Yet they are into stealing already. This does not reflect on their characters or the characters of their parents.

No doubt a lot of people will find all sorts of excuses for them. Too bad.

These girls are spoiled rich brats. Sounds like they have a streak of violence too. Disgusting.

Maybe these girls are on steroids...steroid rage can cause these things....
