Filling In Oh Seo Well

Since starting the season 0-5, the Mets have been on fire, winning 10 of 13 games. Their play has lifted them to two games over .500, which generally isn't very good, but when was the last time the Mets were in this position? One area of concern pops up for the Mets despite their record, the starting pitching. Three starting pitchers - Kris Benson, Steve Trachsel, Kaz Ishii - for the Mets are currently on the disabled list, but somehow the Mets are still winning.

Performances like Aaron Heilman's one hitter and yesterday's start by Jae Seo seem to be good enough for now, but how long can they last? Seo has a brutal 8.22 ERA in the minors, which usually doesn't warrant a call-up, but when you need arms, you'll take that 8.22 ERA. Yesterday afternoon (on THREE DAYS REST), Seo had a 6 inning, 1 run outing, leading the Mets to a 10-5 victory against the Expos Nationals.

Offensively, the Mets were by the rookie Victor Diaz, who's filling in for Mike Cameron. Diaz was 4-4 with 3 RBI, batting .362 on the season, and led making a good case for staying in right field. If Diaz keeps playing well, what do the Mets do with Cameron? Put the already displaced former center fielder on the bench, platoon him with Diaz, or eat some of his salary and trade him away.

The Mets look for the sweep against the Nats this afternoon before welcoming the Braves to Shea for three games starting Monday.
