Rabies Cases in the Bronx

2005_04_raccoon.jpgWatch out for raccoons - two women in the Bronx were bitten by rabid raccoons or very possibly the same one. One woman was bitten in her backyard, while the other woman was bitten two blocks away in Riverdale. These are the first rabies attacks in the city in five years, but city health officials have found ten rabid animals in the Bronx so far, more than in any other borough.

Here's the Mayo Clinic's tips on rabies. Basically, Gothamist just knows to avoid animals that are foaming at the mouth; we usually avoid foaming at the mouth humans as well.
