Brown Out

In the movie, Caddyshack, Judge Smails famously opined that, “the world needs ditch diggers too.” That is great news for Kevin Brown as once again he dug a hole too deep for the Yankees to climb out of as they lost to Texas 5-3 on Friday night. Brown has now put the Yankees in the hole for three straight starts counting the playoffs and one has to wonder how long the Yankees will wait for him to round into form.

On the other side of the ledger, perhaps Texas’ Chris Young should inherit the moniker of “Big Unit”. Young, at 6’10”, is as tall as Randy Johnson and certainly pitched like him tonight, limiting the Yankees to four hits while striking out seven. The Yankee offense could never get on track and managed only two extra base hits against a mediocre pitching staff.

The Yankees will face Texas Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting, with Jaret Wright and Randy Johnson taking the mound. While it is only April, the Yankees are 7-10 and worse, are playing under .500 at the Stadium. The Yankees have finished above .500 in the month of April for fourteen consecutive years and will need to conclude the month with a 6-1 record to continue that streak.
