2005 NFL Draft Preview

The 2005 NFL Draft takes place this weekend and fans of the New York football teams will have to wait a while before seeing who they will be rooting for next year since neither team has a first round pick. Unlike years past when the Draft was at Madison Square Garden, this year's Draft is at the Javits Center because of Cablevision's opposition to the West Side Stadium.

For the Jets, coming off of a 10-6 record and some success in the playoffs, the draft is mostly about adding some depth to their team. The Jets made their biggest move Wednesday, adding Tight End, Doug Jolley, in a trade with the Oakland Raiders. Having secured a Tight End, the Jets will probably focus on bolstering their offensive line and secondary. Corey Webster, Ronald Bartell, Jr. and Adam Snyder are three names that the Jets may call this weekend. The Jets will pick twice in the second round, once in each of the third, fourth and fifth rounds, three times in the sixth round and twice in the seventh.

The Giants chose to try and rebuild from their 6-10 season through free agency, making several big signings that addressed key needs. However, there are still holes to fill on the defensive line and expect them to look at running backs if one they like is available since Tiki Barber will not last forever. Luis Castillo and Ciatrick Fason are two players the Giants are rumored to like. The Giants only have four picks in the draft, in the second, third, fourth and sixth rounds, so they will need to focus very carefully on their selections.
