April 20: Ruthie & Gussie/Empire Kosher Matzo Ball Eating Championship. If you're lucky enough to be free at 1pm on a Wednesday, go see reigning champ Eric "Badlands" Booker, who ate 21 in 5 min 25 seconds last year. During the event, sponsored by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, contestants will down matzo balls from the "official “kvetch-proof” Ruthie & Gussie’s recipe cooked in chicken soup made with great tasting Empire Kosher chickens." At the Friars Club, 57 East 57th Street between Madison and Park Aves. 1pm, free, call 212-627-5766 for more information.

The Friars Club is at 57 East 55th Street, not 57 East 57th Street. See www.friarsclub.org. I live on 57th Street.
I am going to the matzo ball eating contest ... as a spectator, not a participant! I'm giddy with excitement.
I hope to take matz and matzo photos, and will post them on my site later.
