Don't Kill The Dream

2005_04_food_tasti-d-lite.jpgBrooklyn Heights' Montague Street can finally claim its very own Tasti D-Lite. The Haagen-Daz up the street can eat its heart - and hips - out.

Already, brownstone Brooklyn gals are lining up at the newest branch in Tasti D-Lite's franchise family to indulge in frozen confections flavored with Oreo, Peanut Butter, Rice Pudding and more. And, if the chain's marketing materials are to be believed, it's actually low in calories, 100% natural, cholesterol free and 99% fat free.

But, do we believe it? Couldn't this simply be an urban myth that women in the five boroughs desperately try to cling to in order to enjoy their nightly frozen fix? WE DON'T CARE!!!! WE DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!!!!

Didn't the Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt episode of "Seinfeld" teach us anything? Allow us a guilt-free frozen confection buffer from the city's harsh realities. Give us our daily ration of Dutch Chocolate and Capuccino swirl.

Tasti-D is also low in lactose! I love that stuff... and I can actually eat it without getting an upset stomach, which I can't say for ice cream.

There was expose in the NYtimes about a year+ back about how, because of portion sizes, there is actually a lot more calories than claimed in the Tasty D.

There's also one in the middle of hipster heaven...Bedford Ave in Williamsburg!

All I know is that, if you stick a cone of Tasti-D perpendicular-like into a tree, it sticks that way. No way that shit is natural...

a cone of dog poo does the same thing and it's all natural.

I like soft serve frozen yogurt/ice cream better than the harder versions, so this is good news (even though I'm rarely in that area), and at least, even if there's more calories in Tasti D than they claim, they're probably less than in regular ice cream. Some flavors are great and taste like what they're supposed to (I like Peanut Butter and Chocolate Marshmallow), some leave a lot to be desired, but they change the flavors daily so there's always a new one to try.
