After a dismal start to the season, the "new Mets" are looking revived, winning three straight games. Last night, they defeated the Astros, 1-0 in 11 innings. The game brought Roger Clemens back to Shea Stadium for the first time since 2002. Clemens faced the Mets last May in Houston, a game that the Mets also won in extra innings despite a great performance by the Astros pitcher. This time, however, Mike Piazza wasn't the difference maker. That came on a single by Jose Reyes that just went by Houston shortstop Adam Everett. Victor Diaz, on second after walking and advancing on a bunt, scored easily on the single.
Clemens was welcomed with a chorus of boos that lasted the whole game, but again pitched well. The 42 year old, and reigning Cy Young award winner, pitched 7 innings, giving up only 2 hits and 1 walk, surrendering no runs and striking out 9. His Mets counterpart, Kaz Ishii, also pitched well. Ishii also went 7 innings and allowed 2 hits, 3 walks and had 5 K's. Control problems, Ishii? Nah.
With the no decision, Clemens is now 0-3 in his 6 career starts at Shea including 2 in the post-season. The Mets look to make it four straight and sweep the Astros out of Shea tonight.

I've always had a fondness for Ishii. He was one of those kinda pitchers whose ERA might be 4.75 or so but he'd get the win, or he was playing on teams with enough offense to get the job done. Nice to see him hold his own against an aging Rocketman.
