Gothamist thought that Detective Green's shooting in tonight's episode of Law & Order was just a neat way to let Jesse L. Martin leave the show temporarily while he shoots Rent, but someone on Flickr says that tonight will be his last episode. The episode features a shocking crime, which is a bullet to the chest of Detective Green. Say it ain't so! It's not like L&O producer Dick Wolf would want to show his hand, but this is too obvious. When Jill Hennessy's Claire Kincaid died at the end of season six, we didn't know. And while we knew Serena Southerlyn was leaving, we didn't know she would be a lesbian! Gothamist doesn't want to see Detective Green in a bodybag. And we don't want a Paul Sorvino/Phil Cerreta-like shooting in a buy-and-bust, where he ends up deciding to leave homicide investigations. No!
Does anyone know what's going on? What do you think? Clearly, we'll be tuning in at 10PM tonight.

Jen, I love you 'cause you're the only other person as obsessed with L&O as I am.
This is the first time that I had heard about Martin leaving for good. I hope that's not the case because I like his character a lot. Dennis Farina is still kind of "meh" to me.
No slight against Martin, but isn't he a bit too old to be playing a character in "Rent'?
But he can sing!
Ditto Dirk's comments. Thanks for the reminder to tune in.
I like Farina, but I'm not sold enough on him that I'm ready to part with Green yet either.
the thing that kills me about farina is his teeth. they're so white and kind of like a beaver.
The character Martin will be playing in Rent is pretty ageless compared to the other characters in the show. And it's the character whose role he created on Broadway, so why not?
Me thinks this is just some low-level spin NBC put into gear in order to get people to tune in. :)
You work your side of the street Ms. Chung, and I'll work mine.
I have to say, I love angry Jack McCoy.
But they aren't going to let Detective Green die on Trial by Jury. I bet he gets better, but then needs rehab, hence his absence from the end of this season.
I heard Jen Chung was in the running to play the new lead detective?
Not to change the subject before the body is cold, but who is playing Maureen in Rent, the movie?
about a month ago i accosted eric stoltz in a restaurant. after chatting with him a bit i asked him what he was up to. he said directing an episode of law and order. i asked what it was about. he said one of the main characters got shot. i couldn't believe he was divulging secrets! i then proceeded to drink heavily and completely forgot about that part of the conversation until last night! i wish i could remember if he actually said "gets shot" or "dies" -- the whole thing was like a dream!
Eric, I'm pretty sure Idina Menzel is reprising the role. I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I heard the whole original cast is back except for Daphne Rubin-Vega, who can't pull off 19 anymore, I guess. Mimi is being played by Rosario Dawson.
Erin, I think you're right. I believe that's why Idina left Wicked when she did.
And I would go see almost anything that had Jesse Martin singing in it.
Don't worry all:
Jesse will be back to start season 16, especially since I don't think DW wants to go through another full-time replacement that quickly, especially since two main characters have already been replaced this season (though if Michael Imperoli does well in this fill-in role, it does give DW some options for the future).
