"The city is cost prohibitive given their salary, cost of student loans, and cost of living."

Not really. I live in Washington Heights. I pay just a little over 1K a month for a HUGE 1br pre war apt, with laundry, 2 supers, security and indoor parking. I'm 2 blocks from the train, it takes me no more than 40 minutes to get anywhere I want to in Manhattan. I'm close to Fairway, which is both cheap and higher quality than any other supermarket in the city. Brooklyn is not that cheap anymore anyway unless you're living in the ghetto or really far away, so I dont buy that excuse. They are living there because its hip, not because they're destitute.

first off....ADAs do not make much at all. This is relative to the fact that they are paying down HUGE debts to schools on the smaller salary in comparison to private lawyers. Going after these individuals for not living in the city is just silly. The city is cost prohibitive given their salary, cost of student loans, and cost of living. furthermore making comment that top adas make more then 100k is also a silly point. any lawyer at the top of his/her game who is only making 100k in nyc is by far on the low scale of things financially speaking. ADAs sacrifice their potentially high paying careers as lawyers to give back to humanity through prosecuting those who have been arrested.

my feelings on the "living in the city" rule should pertain to cops as well. they dont make much. lets stop putting constraints on civil servants that would be illegal/contreversial to place on private workplace people.
