i think besides being stupid, this is really negative. he's learning that cookies are a 'sometimes' food (a treat) and vegetables are an everyday food (good for you and virtuous) and shown having to make choices. it creates a very eating disordered attitude about food. veggies are yummy. cookies are yummy. people only get obsessive (and fat) when they start thinking they're denying themselves what's pleasurable for no real reason.

"Figures that Disney buys, Henson Productions, and screws with Cookie Monster." I would get the facts straight before damning the Henson family or Disney regarding this Cookie Monstrosity. Sesame Street is no longer directly connected with Jim Henson productions. In 2000 Sesame Street Productions acquired the rights to all of the Sesame Street Muppet characters. Which explains a lot of the "oddness" of the recent incarnations of Sesame Street. Watch a show from 2005 and then watch one from the 1970s. There is a huge difference in creativity and focus. It's not the same show by a long shot. Regarding Disney, Disney does not own Henson productions. In the early 1990s there were merger talks. Then when Jim Henson died, the talks soured and the merger never occured. But because Disney did invest time and energy into Henson themed stuff, they worked out a deal in which Henson Productions would go it's own way, but allow Disney to run and produce a few live shows to help Disney recoup the cost of the time/energy they spent previously. You can blame this whole Cookie Monster issue--as well as the endless barrage of Elmo stuff--on the new management of the Sesame Workshop who now treats the property like another character based brand. Pimping the life and soul out of it. And this cookie monster stunt wreaks of a new group in charge who has no clue what the Sesame Street charm is or why they are slowly killing it.

Wtf? Why are they trying to bastardize the Cookie Monster? Its not his fault America's Children are turning into fatasses. All our children should switch from watching Sesame Street to Wonder Showzen. Now thats a real children's show that teaches REAL values that today's kids need.

this could not be more lame. cookie monster never made me think i should be eating cookies all day long any more than oscar made me think that i should live in a trashcan. 1. i never took muppets literally as a kid, and 2. my mother took on the actual responsibility of feeding me healthy and balanced portions of food. (what a concept.) she also had the courage to set rules and say yes or NO to things like cookies. next thing you know, oscar will have to move out of his can and share a walk-up with telly because "we're mocking homelessness" and "must protect the children." oh but "don't move them next to burt and ernie or someone might get 'the wrong idea.'" i'm going to trust the sesame street team to not take this new direction too far because i've long loved their work. but the problem isn't and will never be cookie monster. the problem is the mindset of adults who think that cookie monster is more responsible for their kids' behaviors than they are.

The cookie monster has never been a positive example of a junk food diet. Look at his manic behavior. His eyes. That damned matted fur. He's a mess. But this is also one great publicity stunt by the Sesame Street crew. Kids do get it. But the ridiculous need for parents to create a "safe" environment for their kids everywhere is to blame for this. We're overprotecting our kids. We're creating a bunch of Stepfor Children at this rate. I'm so glad I grew up in the NYC where there were bums, addicts and others in the neighborhood. Gives perspective to thing.

C is for Cardboard! Also, if you are a kid who likes to REALLY watch TV, you can tell Cookie isn't really *ingesting* any of the cookies - they just fly out all over the place. I was always mesmerized by that.

This is such stupid b.s. I can't believe it. It's a puppet for God's sake! And it's a show. And it can stand for other things like having a good time and learning. It's not just about the cookies. And so what if Cookie Monster has been known to shove cookies down his throat! Seems like a funny thing when it's a cookie monster doing it!!! A cookie monster is not a kid! Think outside the box!!! Kids get it. It's too bad adults are such jerks.

Did you see that Cookie Monster might be "Pilates Monster" on Weekend Update? Hee hee. I feel bad that Cookie Monster might not get Cookies all the time. Will he be eating baby Carrots during his eating binges? Or Cauliflower? Chard? Cole slaw (sans the mayo)? Chick peas? The possibilities are endless!
