Jeter Saves the Day

It seemed so eerily familiar, the Yankees with a one-run lead and Mariano Rivera on the mound against the Red Sox. We had seen this picture last October and knew that we wouldn’t like the ending. Luckily, Derek Jeter made sure to rewrite the script. Jeter broke up a tie game in the bottom of the ninth with a lead off home run, saving the Yankees from blowing another game against their arch-rival. For Yankee fans, it was a sign that perhaps mystique and aura are coming back to the Bronx again.

The day started out promisingly for the Yankees with their second big-name pitching acquisition fairing well until running into trouble in the seventh inning. Carl Pavano looked dominant at times and would have won the game if Joe Torre’s bullpen had been able to keep the lead.

Hideki Matsui continued his torrid start with his second homer in as many games and two additional hits, giving him almost half of the production of a Yankee offense which left an astounding nineteen runners on base.

The Yankees conclude their series with Boston on Wednesday before welcoming former coach, Lee Mazzilli, and the Baltimore Orioles for three games this weekend.

Did anyone catch (teehee) that jump Hideki made in the first game that robbed the sox of an early homer? Awesome. It looked super-human. Yellow men can jump.

So, is booing one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the franchise part of the "return of mystique and aura"? Some Yankee fans are so completely obsessed by the Red Sox they can't see the forest for the trees. If you were among those people booing Mariano Rivera yesterday, do yourself a favor, and slam your head in the nearest car door.

So, where's the report on how Mo gave up 5 runs to the sox in the 9th and blew another save vs the sox? I'm tired of reading about Jeter saves teh day, and all that yankee-blowing. if you criticize the mets, do so to the yanks when they suck. go sox.
