Chinese Food Delivery Man Safe

The Chinese food delivery man who had been missing since last Friday night was found safe this morning. Police had been aggressively searching for Ming Kung Chen, using search dogs and aerial units, even entering 817 of the 871 units in the Bronx housing project where Chen's last delivery was and where Chen's bike had been found parked outside. Much of the concern from the police and community was stemming from the history of violent incidents against Chinese food delivery men, most notably the brutal murder of Huang Chen (a teenager was found guilty of beating Chen to death for money to buy sneakers; another teen is awaiting trial). Happy Dragon delivery man Chen was found dehydrated but otherwise okay in one of the elevators in the building he had been delivering in; the FDNY responded to a stuck-elevator call this morning and found him inside. Gothamist now wonders if the complaints of public housing residents about elevator safety will be addressed.

"Chen was found dehydrated by otherwise okay"

When people don't proofread, it makes baby Jesus cry.

this just shows the horrible conditions the city's public housing is kept in. elevators and power and heat are going out all the time.

If a Chinese man was stuck in an Elevator for 4 days, then set free, would'nt he become Disoriented?

  • Captain Midnight

Good thing they found him. Too bad he wasn't stuck in a rich building, though. I wonder how much the exec stuck in the McGraw Hill building elevator for most of a weekend some years back got as a settlement. Probably made out like a bandit.

Thank god he's alive. To live another day terrorizing more pedestrians.

apologize for the triple comment - i wrote "area" where i meant "order" in the first post.

it is amazing that they would search 800 some-odd apartments before checking all of the elevators. for some reason i don't think things would have occurred in this backwards order in a non-projects building..... really - imagine the cops "consent searching" 30 apts at 850 park ave before checking the service elevators.... just an observation. i was sure the guy was dead too.

I'm glad threy found him ok, but it's really disturbing that It took so long for either anyone to complain about the Elevator or worse, the Elevator Alarm is broken...
