It seems like just a couple of months ago we were asking you to help Save Tonic. Actually, it was 2 months ago - to the date, and now New York City has gone and done it. $80,000 (the clubs adjusted goal) was raised and the shows will go on! From Tonic's website:
With your amazing outpouring of support we have met our fundraising goals and it is now safe to say that Tonic will remain open. Please continue to show your support for the avant garde, creative, and experimental music scene by coming out to listen as often as you can. Check our website regularly for updates and for information about an upcoming THANK YOU party.
Let's all keep them in business shall we? Check out their upcoming events here. We're looking forward to Stars Like Fleas on April 9th (the band features members and ex-members from the Fiery Furnaces and Mercury Rev) and Other Passengers on April 10th.

Save Tonic! Save Luna Lounge! Us white upper middle class trust-fund artists have worked so hard to rid the Lower East Side of the Latinos and the Blacks. Now wealthy white developers want to take the Lower East Side away from us? How dare they out-gentrify us! It seems like just yesterday when we wrestled the nail salon from the fingers of that silly "Nuestra Vecindad" campaign to save the neigborhood. To see all that go down the drain? No! Tonic, you may have failed as a business, but you haven't failed me. Take my money.
Tonic's great, I've seen lots of great shows there, it's a somewhat unique place . . . but it is a for-profit business! The idea of a "fundraiser" for a for-profit business baffles me.
My comment has nothing to do with the above post, gentrification is a whole other issue I don't want to touch.
