West Side Stadium Steps

Solidifying his support for the Jets' bid to develop the West Side, Reverend Al Sharpton will be appearing in some pro-West Side Stadium ads. He says:

The Jets have come to labor, have come to the black and Latino community and have made firm commitments, which sets a standard for doing business in this city. No one should want to build in this city without dealing with the concerns and the needs of the people in this city. So they've earned our support.
The ads will start running tomorrow, according to the Daily News, but as with Mayor Giuliani's pro-West Side Stadium ads (which started running last week), Cablevision won't be showing the ads. As Cablevision has a big presence in the Bronx and Brooklyn, Gothamist wonders if the black support the Reverend Al hopes to drum up will happen.

And some consultants are actually saying both the Jets and Cablevision bids are way too low: The NY Post reports that MTA-hired Newmark & Company says that the space, "about 6 million square feet of prime real estate" should go for $200 per square foot, for a total of over $1 billion from any auction.

Does anyone care what the fat bastard thinks? He holds no public office, he's never appeared to have any job for that matter. As a reverend he's never seemed to have a parish. How does he make a living? My recollection of sharpton is that under threat of a 'protest' he would shakedown black musicians for free tickets to their concerts which he would then scalp. The only black people that don't find him an embarrassment are those prone to conspiracy theories.

he's possibly one of the most blunt and matter-of-fact speakers out there. he has an agenda, but you already know what it is, so you can adjust for the bias. and as a presidential candidate, he had some of the most intriguing answers out there, just not the funding to support them. he's witty, quick, and a lot more in connection with the needs of the other four boroughs than most of the people running New York.

nobody is saying having him around is a complete saving grace, but i think its safe to say that he's earned the right to talk. (and i'm not a big stadium fan or anything.. more like on the fence about it really.) so stop being such a dickhead, bob denver. your music sucks anyway.

i wonder how much the "Reverend's" endorsement cost the Jets? i wonder how much in "charitable" contributions his national action network took in.

if anything, this is just another example of American corporations being fleeced by the likes of minority scum like al sharpton, jesse jackson, etc.... his endorsement is meaningless to all but his wallet.

The Jets should have West Side Stadium, ITS THE JETS!! Not some out of town team that is coming in from all over the country. Just think of all the possibilities and job openings this stadium could bring to the city. And if the 2012 olympics come to NY, everyone will be working making more money to spend boosting not only the NY economy, but the ENTIRE NATIONS!! "BUILD IT"
