This place is awful! went last fall, and I still won't forget the horrible service, and greasy potatoe pancakes were the highlight.
They sat us upstairs, the table next to us was not cleaned , so food and dirty dishes sat there, while we ate next to it. Flys were swarming.. there was omelette on the floor..yuck.

I've had the ame experience the two times I've been. Good food, absoluely terrible, terrible service. Slow servers, mixed up orders, long wait on food and drinks. You've been warned.

I'd have to agree. I was very happy with the food, but the service was just awful. they made us wait a half hour to order and got our drinks confused.

i actually had brunch last sunday as well at Essex, and I have to say, while the drinks were great, the service was B A D. I mean really bad , or at least at our table. There was a snafu with a coffee maker being moved upstairs, a wrong order at our table and a rather indignant server ( the one who wore a plastic headband ) who treated us like we were an intrusion to her sunday morning. Minus the drinks, I would encourage people to go elsewhere on the LES. If you can, walk the extra block and hit Schillers. At least they still give service with a smile.
