Auto Show Opens Tomorrow

The International Auto Show opens tomorrow at the Jacob Javits Center (aka the convention center everyone in NYC is unhappy with, but there aren't really any alternatives), and the local press has the scoop. Newsday has an interactive feature with all the show's new cars, and ABC 7 has an inside look. And most intriguingly, the NY Times notes how Jeep brought in tons of dirt to create an off-road course where cras drive up 45 degree angles and the like: It even required a "dirt dresser" to "place dirt artistically." Now, we understand that most Jeep buyers would probably be braving less concrete surfaces, we'd like to see the NYC obstacle course: Pedestrians, delivery trucks, Con Ed explorations, and messed up traffic lights.

The official site: NY International Auto Show; tickets are available online or at the door. Plus, if you're not dodging cars in traffic or struggling with alternate side of the street parking to get to the auto show, you can check out live auto show coverage at Jalopnik. And who knew that an Andrew Dice Clay movie would share the name with a Ford (above)?

"And who knew that an Andrew Dice Clay movie would share the name with a Ford (above)?"

huh? probably most americans who lived through the 60s and 70s. they named the andrew dice clay movie after the ford fairlane.

Man, what a shame. That new Fairlane looks like a total dud. The original was niiice.
