Museum Shows For Banksy

2005_03_infil.jpg

The Wooster Collective has the exclusive on Banksy's recent exploits in New York City. And by exploits we mean hanging his own art up in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, and American Museum of Natural History in true counter-Thomas Crown Affair fashion. Amazing. And what Gothamist loves is that the each museum got its own different piece of art work (a Tesco soup can for the MoMA, a bug for for the AMNH). And it seems that the pieces in the Brooklyn Museum and AMNH pieces are still up there!

Banksy tells the Wooster Collective, "This historic occasion has less to do with finally being embraced by the fine art establishment and is more about the judicious use of a fake beard and some high strength glue. They're good enough to be in there, so I don't see why I should wait." For more Banksy, visit his site.

How bizarre...Last month I contributed a piece to the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena.
They were having a show called Lost But Found, an exhibit of found objects incorporated into pieces by artists such as :Nevelson, DuChamp, Rauschenberg, et. al.

Upon seeing the Hygrometer beautifully encased in smoked plexiglass, I made a label with my name and info for the piece and a statement claiming the work as one of my own. On the next visit I posted it on the wall and then had to skedaddle as the guard noticed something amiss.

My daughter and I just barely made it to the car before the two walkie-talkied guards could spot us.

Even though I put an email address on the piece and a phone number...alas there has been no call. I should send a bill.
