Gothamist loves the whole blog scene- mainly because its the only place we can find pictures of pandas, kittens, and Paris Hilton's coochie all in one place. However, when it comes to straight information, its hard to beat the utility of an old-school internet mailing list. Here are a few that we rely on to keep us plugged in every week- can you think of anymore to add to this list?
1. Nonsense-NYC
2. Daily Candy
3. NYC Happenings (Yahoo)
4. NYC Photo (Yahoo)
5. Manhattan User's Guide

How about Flavorpill, Extreme NY, Toxic Pop or Free In New York...
For me, it's MUG, Flavorpill, Oh My Rockness and Straphangers.
um the nyhappenings link makes my outlook window open -- should it go to a web site instead?

Thanks for the kind words, and for putting nyhappenings in such illustrious company. NonsenseNYC is the super cool real deal, and while I don't get MUG, my mother is constantly forwarding me their updates saying "you probably already know about this but..."
I'd just like to mention that while most of those other lists are compiled/edited by a small cabal of trendsetters, nyhappenings is a place where most anyone can be heard, most of the time.
http://www.newyorkcool.com & http://www.newyorkled.com sites and newsletter updates also good.
for restaurants, defintely She Loves NY
Shecky's has some decent round-ups...

I really like Wanda's Weekly Calendar. She's a professional event planner, sends out an interesting mix of events, including free ones.

The best stuff in my inbox lately (Toxic Pop/Nonsense NYC/Extreme NY/MUG having already been mentioned) has been from Papermag (site has more info than list), the NY Alive Yahoo group and the long list from Gemini and Scorpio (awkward setup, but really good listings).
The Onion has been getting better, while Flavorpill seems to have slipped into the electronic/DJ world more than anything else.
