We won't lie, pretty much every band is in Austin right now. But don't let that get you down, there are still some things worth seeing in this city over the next four days - and we bet you'll have a more enjoyable time. With everyone out of the city there will be less crowds and less waiting for a drink at the bar...take advantage of it!
Tonight at Irving Plaza you can catch the reunited guitar rock legends, Slint, at their only not sold out (yet) show. (Special note from Ben: Just found out about the "super-secret" Slint afterparty tonight. It's midnight at Lit (woop-dee-doo) downstairs, open bar 12-1am. The band will be there and there'll be some DJs and all that so go and be cool with fancy rock and rollers!)
Tomorrow night check out some experimental avant garde in the form of Xiu Xiu [pictured], who takes over the Knitting Factory main space.
Or take this time to support lesser known bands, like the Soft Explosions who play at Luna Lounge tomorrow night, or the band A Place To Bury Strangers who hit up Asterisk* Gallery on Saturday night. Their name terrifies us, but in a good way.
Next week there are SO MANY good bands, including (but not limited to) THE THERMALS (sorry, but we love them THAT MUCH), the Go! Team (here's a tip, if you didn't get tickets to one of their sold out shows, they're playing for $5 at the Canal Room next Wednesday night, buy tickets here!) and of course Sean Lennon at Tonic again (he's single handedly saving that place!)
That's it kids! We're headed out to Austin tomorrow morning, see you at the Gothamist happy hour next week!
