Upcoming

This weekend it's going to be cold. Again. But don't stay inside sitting on your radiators just because it's snowing, head out there and warm up in theaters! Galleries! And bars! (Oh my!) Here are some suggestions.

MUSIC: Tonight in Brooklyn the Village Voice proclaimed "Best Thrower Of No-BS Far-Flung Indie Rock Shows", Todd P, will be throwing a party for Deli Magazine. Described as an intriguing, multifaceted, impossible to ignore succession of inspired semi-maniacs messing around with musical instruments and vocal chords, this sounds like a must see to us! If you feel likewise then head over to the Asterisk Art Center [258 Johnson Ave, Brooklyn] at 8pm tonight. Bring $7 for entry. More info here.

2005_03_artsgorillaman.jpgTHEATER: Gorilla Man is the brainchild of Kyle Jarrow, author of the cult hits A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant and Armless.  It is directed by Habib Azar with a cast of some of NYC's hottest actors, and features members of the glam rock band The Fabulous Entourage. Which may explain the influence of T.Rex in the play. This musical theater piece is described as a darkly comic coming-of-age tale that explores issues of violence, identity, and free will against the backdrop of a warped American landscape. Tom Sawyer meets Teen Wolf?
The show runs through March 27th @ Performance Space 122 [150 First Ave, NYC] Hours are Thursday to Saturday @ 9 and Sunday @ 6. For more info go here. Tickets available here, and as a bonus you can listen to the theme song here [mp3].

ART: Living in a world that's mostly defined by pop culture icons, MTV and Hollywood...Exit Art asks what we are beyond our commercial aesthetic in their Other America exhibit. Through various artistic works we are shown the undercurrents of our country. Th exhibit includes 27 artists projects as well as a video program. Visions of American that you do not see during commercial breaks and flipping through glossy magazines, proof that two dimensions can coexist on one plane. Our friends checked this exhibit out yesterday and we're really impressed, they also mentioned that some of the artists were there and more than happy to answer questions. Exit Art is located at 475 10th Avenue. This exhibit runs through May 7.

MORE ART: Tomorrow night Brooklyn art galleries that are a part of the Williamsburg Gallery Association will be hosting their own seperate events, for free, until 11pm. For a map and orientation, go directly to the Greeting Center at Spike Hill Bar and Grill [184 Bedford Ave]. There, you will find information on all of the galleries and locals on hand to point the way. However a list of galleries can be found here. Tomorrow night Open Ground is having an opening for Williamsburg Wedding, an international exchange between artists in Brooklyn and Berlin. More info here.
