Dinner at Your Door

2005_03_food_deliverymenus.jpgOne of the top reasons we'll never leave New York? Delivery. We're not talking about standard, run-of-the mill options that might be available in the rest of the country -- we're talking about delivery. Not "pizza or Chinese?" but "sushi, Indian, or Dominican?" New York is a delivery town, and today's Times highlights the bounty we have that can be whisked to our doors, and even provides a guide of their picks for the best delivery in a handful of neighborhoods, including the East Village, Harlem, Astoria, and Park Slope, among others. The Times gives a shout-out to Menupages, one of Gothamist's favorite resources for on-line menus, which comes in extremely handy if you can't seem to find that pesky delivery menu in your kitchen drawer.

Delivery is fantastic on busy weeknights, especially when we don't even have our time-saver meals in the fridge, and is our absolute savior on hungover weekends when the thought of even scrambling an egg seems overwhelming. Okay, folks, let's hear it -- what's your favorite neighborhood delivery? Don't forget to tell us your neighborhood!

I love menupages too... is there a site like that for restaurants in Brooklyn? Specifically Park Slope-ish.

Man, that piece really made me miss living on Smith Street. I made the short walk to Giardini's for a spicy sausage slice at least once a week.

Now it's Greenpoint, where Amarin Thai is about the only above-average bet. (Though suggestions are certainly welcome!)

mmm...Hill Top on 181st and Fort Washington as the greasiest, most delicious cheeseburgers and fries in washington heights. tasty cheap hangover food!

Living in the north end of Morningside Heights, we don't have quite as many choices for delivery. As the Times pointed out, Harlem has the fewest number of restaurants. And a lot of delivery places don't go any further than 120th, sometimes even 116th.

Odessa Restaurant on the LES/EV! They have the biggest menu in the neighborhood, and are a lot cheaper than nearly every other place. And they're one of the few places that actually serve American food (think about how many chinese and japenese menus we see). You can get TWO cheeseburgers with coleslaw, fries, pickles, lettuce and tomato for $7.75 from Odessa. And they have great American favorites such as root beer floats and banana royales.

Forgot to mention: Odessa is open 24 hours, too

Tien -- what Pizza in Greenpoint do you like? The one across the street from me on Nassau near Humboldt was reprehensible the one time I tried them.

the one next to the chase bank and the associated on manhattan ave. sometimes they use too much cheese though. but they are nice people and they sell you pizza dough if you ask nicely.
