Last night, a man was shot outside of Hot 97. This would be scary in most cases, but the interesting thing is that the victim is a part of 50 Cent's entourage, and this happened while the rapper, who was famously shot multiple times and lived to tell and get rich, was inside. Now, the police are not sure if there is a connection between the shooting and 50 Cent, but 50 Cent was making an announcement on the radio:
The rapper was being interviewed live on the air when the shooting happened at about 10 p.m. He had just made the unexpected announcement that he was kicking out his protege The Game from his crew, G-Unit, for being disloyal.Dunh dunh DUNH. The victim was shot in the leg and is in stable condition; The Game's album, The Documentary, is the number 1 album in the country. And this has not been a good year for Hot 97. Not only is Lil' Kim's trial for allegedly lying to a grand jury about the 2001 shooting outside Hot 97 going on now, people are still fuming about the morning show's "tsunami song." Anyway, a cynical person would say that this shooting is going to give 50 Cent more publicity for his new album, which comes out on Thursday, but given that 50 is one of the biggest stars out there, Gothamist doubts it was a record label marketing ploy.
Newsweek interviews 50 Cent this week. And, semi-tangentially, Sasha Frere-Jones looks at cellphone ringtones in The New Yorker, and noted, "A kid I met on the subway told me that his mother doesn’t like his new 50 Cent ringtone, Candy Shop, not because it features explicitly sexual rhymes but because it’s not as cool as In Da Club, a previous 50 Cent ringtone, which received Billboard’s first Ringtone of the Year award, in 2004."

50 getting himself into a hole in which he cant climb himself out of. Dissing all these people,i dunno.
given that 50 is one of the biggest stars out there, Gothamist doubts it was a record label marketing ploy
Er, how exactly does the latter follow from the former? Label marketing ploys are how $0.50 became "one of the biggest stars out there", and label marketing ploys are what will keep him that way until the next disposable hot commodity comes along.
Oh, feh, teach me to skim-n-snark. No, the shooting was probably not a publicity stunt.
(note to self: coffee first, comments second)
You know, 50 Cent could rap about Jessica Alba being ugly and I'd still listen to it. Cause it's 50 Cent. He's just too good at the game. Maybe a gimmicky rapper or sideshow act ("Ladies and gentleman, the most marvelous of marvels, the 8th wonder of the world - it's the midget rapper who's been shot 9 times and lived!") but he's got flow. Sick flow. The man does with words what Mo Rivera does with a baseball - it's over the middle of the plate before you're even ready for it.
There are few rappers with that kind of talent. More than a few of them are dead already. I appreciate every one of them, as most of the genre is utter crap. (yes, like Fat Joe. Like Ja Rule. Like Nelly, who is not a great rapper but makes passable pop music) Don't hate on 50, because we need his music to push all the bullshit R&B and horrid dancehall off the radio and into oblivion.
And, another thing, the genre survives because rappers talk shit. Biggie vs. Tupac (minus all the off-the-record violence), Nas vs. Jay Z, Eminem vs. basically anyone... all have resulted in great rap music. The only problem is that 50 hasn't gone up against anyone who had enough game to fight back properly. He picks easy targets, and for that I'm disappointed. But I'll still listen and enjoy anyway.
I've always been on the line when it comes to the topic of what is a part of the Hip Hop Culture. I've never totally agreed with the antics about gangsta rap not being true to hip hop. So, here goes 50 Cent, he wants to die, or go out being known for killing someone. That part is not hip hop, its ghetto ingnorance. Fifty can disguise his intentions multiple ways and blame his attentions on the media but Fifty is just bad for Fifty. I hope his end comes soon , so that we can have another message about how gansta rap really kills.
Brian van is a douche "He picks on easy targets" he "picked on" Ja because of an old street riveraly between both them and because Ja thinks he is Pac which he isnt. If you would know anything beef records dont sell "Candy Shop" sells "In Da Club" sells "21 Questions" sells. "Midget Rapper"? Have you seen 50?
But anyway 50 kicking Game out of G-Unit because he wrote Games record and Game takes it all for himself is smart : )
