Reminder: Unlimited Metrocard Fare Hike Starts on Sunday

With the fare hike for unlimited Metrocards going into effect on Sunday, Gothamist recommends that anyone who is a few days from needing a new unlimited weekly or monthly card to suck it up and get one now - as long as the new one will be used within the grace period.

Grace periods for cards purchased before Sunday, February 27:
7-Day card - until March 7, 2005
30-Day cards - until April 3, 2005

For Unlimited Ride cards purchased prior to February 27, 2005 (and not used up by the end of the grace period), refunds will be made on a pro-rated basis. Ask for a postage-paid envelope at your station booth to return your card.

Happy riding, folks!

think about it. you know the MTA will raise the 2.00 price of a full fare to like 2.25 or something like that in the next two years wchich is sad.

No, ALL MetroCards purchased under the $70 dollar price will expire on April 3rd. If you activate a $70 dollar Unlimited on April 1st, it will expire on April 3rd and you will have to mail it in for a refund.

The last day, I believe, is March 5th, which is 30 days to April 3rd (incl. March 5 and April 3).

Just to make sure, if we buy a new monthly before Sunday, it'll last a whole month as long as we start using it before April 3rd, right? If I started using it on April 1st, it won't crap out after 2 days?
