Manhole Alert

A manhole exploded in the Bronx last night. Luckily, no one was injured, though people were left without electricity and had to be evacuated because the carbon monoxide levels went up. Gothamist wonders if this is the start of the manhole season. Have you heard of any incidents recently?

And all this time I thought it was fart gas that lights up. Does this mean I can go back to eating beans guilt-free?

Whenever a manhole (or womanhole) explodes, I take cover for sure!

I haven't heard one explode yet (although I did last year.) However, they seem to be proactive about it--last night at midnight they were replacing manhole covers in the village. Damn, that is some loud shit. I was pissed and almost called 311, but decided to back off.
