Hoboken's mozzarella is the best in the area by a long shot. Fiore's and Vito's are incredible, followed closely by Biancamano's. You can't get mozzarella that perfect in Manhattan. Hoboken also has the best bread in area- Marie's, Dom's, and Antique are owned by different branches of the Policastro family and are all delicious.

Also, HR, people in this area say mozzarell' instead of mozzarella because most of the Italian immigrants in this area come from the South, and cutting endings short is common in Southern Italian dialect.
Forza Napoli!

OH GOTHAMIST-WHY DO YOU TORTURE US SO!!!

My wife is pregnant and can't eat fresh Mozzerella! (must be Pasteurized to avoid Listeria...)

We are cheesaholics and cannot wait for our baby to arrive in July...but even then...no fresh mozzarella... :(

Yeah..it's really all about Arthur Ave. Or, more specifically, Tino's Deli, which is just off Arthur on East 187th Street.

Christmas Eve at my neighbor's house, she served some incredible mozzarella. She went to Arthur Avenue, but they were out. So they said to her and a bunch of other customers, wait a little while, we'll make some more.

And to you people (you know who you are) who keep calling it MOOTZAREL .... there's an 'A' on the end of that word. Pronounce it.

There's a place in Hoboken called Fiore's that makes some mozz twists that are no joke. Honestly, you'll hardly care for the run-of-the-mill corner deli stuff anymore.

My family being from Hoboken, they would demand the stuff sent to them as holiday gifts. (Yes, demand) The story I always used to hear about it is that Steven Spielberg was a frequent customer who had some sent to him via overnight delivery for his parties.

I would probably settle for something great in the 5 boroughs now (I second Arthur Ave), but back in my B&T days it was worth a trip in the car down there. Adams between 2nd & 3rd, I think?

Joe's is great for mozz, but I went to Arthur Avenue Market last December for the first time, and the mozarella I got was unreal.
