Nouvelle Vague Director @ Film Forum

Cleo From 5 to 7French film director Agnès Varda was one of the few women directors who broke the gender barrier of the French New Wave's boys club of film geekery during the '60s. Her finely wrought characterization and her play with the possibilities of photography to represent memory have been gracing screens for nearly 50 years. Her newest film, Cinévardaphoto interweaves footage from three of her movies, short "cineessays."

See Varda in person (!film icon alert!) tonight at the Film Forum as she will be on hand for a Q&A following the 6:30 pm screening and will introduce the 8:20 pm show. Cinévardaphoto will play for the next two weeks.

J Hoberman's review of the film via the Village Voice. The film premiered on Valentine's Day at MoMA [via greg.org]. For more Varda goodness, rent Cleo From 5 to 7 [still above] or Vagabond, both available on Criterion.

Love love love Agnes Varda.

Varda's CINEVARDAPHOTO is a phenomenal collection of her work. She is a stunningly internal and yet down to earth film maker. Freakin' brilliant!

I agree. Jake is making the Extra Extras more thick than say 3-4 bold ones.
