Gothamist Turns Two

2005_02_gothamist2ndbirthda.jpg

Hey, shorty, it's our birthday (shorty)! Gothamist is very happy that we're at this tremendous milestone, the Terrible Twos, and want to thank all of you for your support and encouragement. We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into on that fateful day(s - we had a beta period), and we're glad, because it's been an incomparable two years. For starters, Gothamist is just getting comfortable in talking English better - maybe someday we'll figure out this whole spelling thing!

Gothamist is pleased with our past year's accomplishments, from adding many wonderful editors and contributors for more expansive coverage to growing out -ist/-est empire to span nine cities in the U.S. and abroad. But there's a lot more Gothamist can do. We hope you stick with us as we work on making the site even better.

You can celebrate with us tonight at the Knitting Factory, for another evening of music with Movable Hype 2. Not only will there be some hot music from Elkland, The Information,Other Passengers, and The Cloud Room, but we'll have a Happy Hour ($200 worth of drinks while they last), some t-shirts to give away, and cupcakes from sugar sweet sunshine bakery, too. Cupcakes, people...cupcakes!

We hope to see you there.

Congrats! Thanks for giving me things to read at work!

big fan of the intentional grammar error at the end of the first paragraph.
besides, we're just trying to keep people on their toes.

Yep, Happy Birthday!

By next year, How far will the Gothamist Empire extend?

The -ist suffix usage is getting ridiculous. What does it even mean anymore? As a branding strategy, it's laughable, because the words that are being cobbled together are utterly nonsensical, and suggest nothing of the sense of local place that the original name did. What the hell is "sfist" supposed to mean?

Better to let the graphics and content of the sites be the "branding," if you must. But please stop with the inane names.

Otherwise, what's next? Parisist? Peoriaist?

I get up in the morning, check my email, and used to flip right to the Times and Daily News sites. But for a year now I have to check Gothamist first, so I know what to read. :>)

Thanks for being there... many more years to come!

TN :>)
