OK YEA lets ban spraypaint.... do you think that will stop graffiti artists from getting it... no it will make it more a problome because people will want more of the risk of getting it from other places oh and wile your at it lets ban eggs because people throw them at cars.. also lets ban Milk because it goes bad when you leave it out lets ban cars because people can kill others with cars.... why dont you guys think of other more important issues like weapons of mass distruction or even child porn i dont care

Let them ban spray paint, people will order it online. Or else they will go else where to buy it. Maybe city council should think about their ideas, and maybe discuss them before sharing them. And maybe then, they won't look like idiots.

The problem with a law banning stupidity is the stupid people would have to pass it. Of course, because they are stupid, they could be fooled into passing it and thus outlaw themselves... um... uh... Sam Beckett for City Council! Banning spray paint to prevent graffiti is like banning dancing to prevent sex.

PS- guns are not illegal, just hard to get the permitting for em. When spray paint is made illegal, only Fab decorators will have spray paint!

Yeah. Great idea. Let's ban the sale of spray paint. That will work. Let's ban the sale of decoupage gear first so no more people have to be exposed to their friends pasting crap onto other crap first. Seriously, I am in complete agreement with "nash". People lash out against graffiti because it's visible and an easy target. But there are tons of other issues this city chooses to ignore or is outright ignorant about. The problematic graffiti will end once you give the lazy toys out there something to do. The pros who do permission pieces and such should be left alone.

sorry i wasn't being clear b, the walmart comment was just a comparison. i was trying to illustrate the contradiction in reasoning for banning certain retail activities over concern for losing tax revenue. if we ban walmart, we lose tax revenue. if we ban paint, we lose tax revenue. one of the primary reasons for banning either of them would be their effect on the community. seperate issues, yes... but, if passed, the reasoning would nevertheless be contradictory.

As someone who's studied "blight" extensively for the last couple years, I have to say that I can name a number of more important issues (than graffiti) to spend our time and effort on. I happen to know that there are some buildings in Williamsburg that are pretty dirty and well-tagged, and no normal people can afford to live in them. Maybe we should be thinking about, say, child poverty, affordable housing, infrastructure investment? Come on, City Council.

I don't think graffiti destroys 'commmunities', but it's pretty annoying and on par with our roach/rodent problem. Walmart is a completely different issue

yeah, that's so not going to happen. it seems funny that mayor mike's argument for allowing walmart to invade the city is that we are losing tax dollars as people leave nyc to buy stuff at walmarts elsewhere. that seems to fly in the face of this idea. i think walmart destroys communities with a broader stroke than spray paint ever could.
