New York City Goes to the Dogs!

2005_02_dogshow2.jpgToday, the 129th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show begins! Gothamist was at Madison Square Garden yesterday and saw some dogs arrive, and we formed our mini paparazzi line. The Pennsylvania Hotel, across the street from MSG, has "doggie concierges" and a doggie spa, plus there are doggie "whisperers" on hand. The Post notes that there's a super cute Glen of Imaal terrier from Chelsea competing for the first time (its name is India and likes to eat bagels with cream cheese). Plus, the Empire State Building will go purple and gold - the colors of the Westminster Kennel Club - tomorrow night.

USA Network's coverage of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show begins at 8PM tonight. Newsday gives a good rundown of what the areas of judging are.

Neil captured this photo of the chalk drawings Pedigree, the sponsor of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, put around MSG. This one really does pop out at you. And speaking of dog artwork, paintings of dogs playing poker are being auctioned on the Upper East Side at Doyle.

I think I'll just watch Best in Show again.

The Dog Show is so awesome. Sure, Best in Show is funny, but this is funny in its own way. The descriptions of the dogs are always bizarre, and the fluffy dogs look like aliens!

Wow, those are flat drawings?!!! I can't believe it!!! And tonight is my favorite part of the competition!
