Best Editorial Methaphor Using Subway Terms

Gothamist totally digs Daily News columnist Richard Schwartz's editorial on President George W. Bush's social policy hot buttons:

If Social Security is the third rail of American politics, then Medicare is the electrical circuit box. So, you've got to scratch your head as you listen to President Bush talk of fixing the third rail (which isn't really broken) while the circuit box has burst into flames.
Now Gothamist understands what all the fuss in about. And given that the MTA has a crazy budget gap, is seriously screwed up, and enjoys a prickly relationship with its riders (who love and hate it), perhaps the MTA is a great microcosm of the country. Except the MTA gives us awesome missed connections.

At least I'm not the only person who thinks that Missed Connections is the best thing in the world.

  • But we can't touch Medicare! Fixing it would take three to five years!
