I found a cockroach in my rice & beans. Last time for me. However, I must say that prior to finding a bug in my food, I really liked this place.

Of the many things I miss about living in Gowanus (no, kids, 18th St and 5th Ave is not "Park Slope" no matter how many times your real estate agent clicks her heels and says "There's no fee like 10%"), Coco Roco ranks pretty high. It was always great to be able to drag out-of-town guests there as a means of demonstrating that you can find great food literally anywhere here. Glad to know they're still doing well.

La Taqueria is yummy. I was happy when they expanded a couple of years ago. I'm also a fan of Los Pollitos, but they've been less consistent recently.

I still haven't found a good roast chicken in my 'hood yet. Anyone know of one in the Village other than supermarkets like Gristedes or Citarella?

My past, present, and likely future fave for good, cheap eats is La Taqueria, also in the Slope (7th Ave & Berkeley). It's great for take-out, or for a solid sit-down meal. All of my California Mexican Food snob friends swear it's really "authentic." I don't know about that, but I do know it's damn good. Best. Nachos. Ever.
