It's fashion week still, I think, and in case you don't know about fashion week, I wrote an article late last year (how often is fashion week, anyways? And, really, isn't every week fashion week?) for anyone unaware of the socio-mathematical details of fashion week. For those uninterested, or uninvited, here's what's happening in the less-exclusive, pay-to-get-in music week:
Pseudo-reinvented Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience play Bowery tonight, presumably still promoting their latest release, "Riot on an Empty Street." Some fans may still be put off (or embracing) the band's waning focus on percussion since their last release three years ago; either way, I doubt you'd be disappointed if you checked them out tonight. Unless, of course, you only like Drum & Bass music, in which case, maybe you should, um, move.
Wednesday, allow yourself to be wooed (but not converted!) by the melodic pro-Christian (what?) melodies of Detroit born and bred Sufjan Stevens, now a Brooklynite, playing at Webster Hall with other nyc fave, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. Also playing: Dillinger Escape Plan, Aesop Rock, RJD2 and Saul Williams. Bowery presenting the show. What's with this "Bowery Presents" crap at Webster Hall? Isn't Webster Hall for kids? By kids, I mean NYU students, of course. And by NYU students, I mean kids. What happened to just having Bowery shows at the Bowery Ballroom? Twenty-first birthdays are important for 2 reasons: 21+ shows and booze. Take away one of those things, and you're shaking the very foundations of the meaning of life. Maybe. I don't actually know what the hell I'm talking about.

For anti-Webster Hallians, there's also the terrific folkster Langhorn Slim (with the absolutely horrific web site which just made me literally nauseous) playing at Tonic, which, incidentally, you can help save by making donations to The Save Tonic Fund. Langhorn is playing with a great group, including Kimya Dawson and the Trachtenburg Family Slide Show Players. They're a real family! There's a little girl in the band! Novelty on sale, only ten bucks.
Thursday, The Fall at The Knitting Factory.
Friday! Rock around with the NYC Hipster scene at the Sexy Magazines show, also at the Knitting Factory. High energy "Strokes-style" rock & roll. More like some kind of remade Iggy Pop. Definitely a fun show. $10.
Sunday, New Pornographers member Neko Case plays to a sold-out crowd at the REAL Bowery Ballroom. Want tickets? Check Craigslist.
See you out there!
