Upcoming
For some of you this weekend marks the launch of fashion week, for others there's a big game on Sunday. Whether you're in couture or sweatpants we have some suggestions on what you can do over the next few days:
MOVIE: Hirokazu Kore-eda's "Nobody Knows" opens today in Manhattan. Based on the true story of four abandoned children in Japan who lived alone for six months without anyone noticing. You can read more about this film here. Film's website here.
MUSIC: Mighty Robot is closed but the Twisted Ones are opening their new venue, Secret Project Robot (Monster Island Building: 210 Kent Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Entrance at back of building on River Street). TONIGHT will be the first show featuring Rah Bras + The Occasion + The Double + Soft Sax. And if you're a deejay (who isn't these days?) you can challenge the Twisted Ones to a sonic duel.
ART: Creative Thriftshop presents the second collection from LA artist Upendo, Tha Black Krayon entitled “Crude Beautiful.” In this series the artist returns to the basics in his exploration of nonsensical language. Opening Reception is Saturday, February 5th (the show will run through February 25th). The exhibit is located at Triple Crown, 108 Bedford Ave., Williamsburg
FASHION: Fashion Week kicks off, so put on your best shoes and stalk the Bryant Park tents for celebrity sightings. Fashion Week schedule here.
SPORTS: Superbowl-something airs this Sunday. Two football teams go head to head and battle for a ring. For less enthused sports fans head over to Pianos where the big game will projected on both floors, DJ's KariBomb, Melody Nelson, The Shut The Fuck Up, and special surprise guests play some tunes in the upstairs lounge. Also (and this is awesome) beer pong, ping-pong, Playstation, and other assorted games will be set up in the live room. There will be $3 draft beers / $5 fancy beers. We suggest you use the cheap beers for beer pong.
