Tonight is almost like Christmas Eve to a Meteorologist

Tomorrow's the big day! Will Staten Island Chuck see his shadow and doom us all to six more weeks of winter? The Queens Zoo has two prairie dogs, Flushing Meadows Phil and Corona Kate, to predict the weather. Gothamist would just like to say that we know groundhogs, and prairie dogs ain't groundhogs. Imposters! There is, or perhaps was, a family of wild groundhogs living in Riverside Park just north of the North River Sewage Treatment Plant/Riverbank State Park. Sadly, we have not seen the family in months and fear that they may have tried to cross the highway and gone to that great groundhog burrow in the sky. Of course, the most famous groundhog of them all is Punxsutawney Phil, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

As you can see from the map above a big high pressure system is in charge and not much will be happening on the local weather scene over the next couple of days. The Weather Service is prevaricating on whether we will get rain, freezing rain, snow or much of anything on Thursday. AccuWeather discounts any chance of precipitation.
