Mystery Bagels Embeds Itself In NYC Windowsill

2005_02_bagel.JPG

Gothamist has been contemplating the mysterious incident of the bagel stuck between window bars and the window over at Verbose Coma (go over there to see the picture). We totally empathize with Deirdre, who writes:
Mostly this bagel worries me because I don't know how to get rid of it. I don't know how to take out my screen and I don't have access to my backyard to pull it out through the bars. What will happen when it thaws? Will I be plagued by families of squirrels and crows fighting over its seed packed goodness? Will it grow mold and make it so I can't open my window without breathing it's deadly stink? What will my landlord say if I call him over to dispose of a mysterious bagel?
Gothamist suspects that beyond squirrels and birds, rats may also considering making a run for some baked treats - and we feel those suckers could probably yank it out. Our only other suggestion is to open the window, stick a tiny toothpick through the holes of the screen, and spend a lot of time trying to disintegrate the bagel.

Of course this makes us hungry for some bagels. If anyone is thinking of splurging to give a little New York to someone outside of the city, Gothamist loves the Zabar's NYC Essentials Gift Basket - it's $180 of bagels, lox, cream cheese, rugelach and more. Of course, you can create your own NYC Essentials gift basket for much less if you're just heading to someone's for brunch. Gothamist misses Columbia Bagels, but we'll happily head to H&H (mmm, yeasty good smells) when we're on the Upper West Side; we also covered Bagelsmith in Williamsburg. And the National Institute of Health has a particularly cruel "Proportion Distortion" interactive quiz on bagel sizes.

Blast it with hot water until it disintegrates.

um, she doesn't know how to take the screen out? maybe she should try those two screen-takining-out tabs at the bottom of it.

You've been contemplating THIS story? Nothing interesting about it (and it's almost a week old.). This post surprised me - is there nothing else going on in the city today?

A better question is: If a Bagel falls on a window and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?
One does wonder...
;)

Probably the screen can just be poped out or Slid up. Can't tell how high up the window is, but that Ladder implies it's not at street level.
A peeping Tom left his Snack??

Montague Bagels on Montague Street, Bklyn Hts. Best bagels in three boros.

This same story was posted on craigslist months ago. Instead of a bagel, the author used a rat. it made the 'best of'

I thought it was hysterical ! What's Joe so crancky about? it is not the same as the craigs list at all. Just funny. lighten up.

I think Joe could be our mysterious bagel-stasher.

If Joe had a job like mine, he'd be much cooler...afterall, nothing is more relaxing than making stacked ugly art all day long...
