Ok, did they say how they'll secure this highly sensitive equipment from terrorists since they've proved to be no match for the ninja-like CHUDS and bums with their high-tech "wood" and Russian surplus "shopping carts." We can't take pictures, but bonfires are no biggie?

to MT: so that surplus wouldn't have helped capital upgrades? like say, replacing A/C line switches from the forties? i'd rather pay more and get a better system. maybe if people like you weren't so short-sighted, the system would be better.

Huzzah to Gothamist for some of the best coverage on this story. I hope you stick with this story for a long time and post on it often--it's being underreported in every venue, and I think it could be a great story for you!

CYA time, indeed. Who the hell is running the show at the MTA? A bunch of chimps? No, I take that back, a bunch of chimps would probably do a better job... I take the A train everyday and this fiasco, combined with the upcoming fare hike, has got me steamed. But I guess we can't do anything except bend over and take it...

If MTA were a doctor, the coversation would go something like this. MTA: "You know how I told you last week that you had 3 months to live?" Patient: "Yeah. I've made changes to my will and I've started distributing my assets." MTA: 'Well, I have some great news. We'll amputate both your legs and you'll have to take this medication that will gradually destroy your kidney, but otherwise, you're going to be just fine. Congratulations." BTW, does anyone know what was up with the F today? Downtown trains were stopped at E Bway and Delancey, and Brooklyn-bound riders had to take the A at W 4th.

Hey, it's always love/dislike with the MTA. We all do love the MTA for, 99% of the time, providing reasonable service at a reasonable cost. To be even more giving, it's actually outstanding service at a very nice cost 90% of the time. Simply put, they could use an attitude change if anything. But for the most part, I'll let it all go. I get something pretty good for my $70... erm, $76 dollars. (note: didn't know you guys had a content filter until I had to substitute "dislike" for another word. ick.)

I think this just convinces people more than ever that the MTA is full of crap. Whether it's covering up supluses to justify a fare hike or outting the fear of God into people by saying it's going to take five years to fix the C line, nothing that say is reliable.

As one of the "knee jerk reactionaries", I must take exception. (ahem) Ok, I have to agree with the original post, This takes CYA to a New level. Gee, does this mean that MTA management might have to (gasp!) forego a pay raise?!?

i've read all the comments on the recent MTA posts and all i have to say (except to those on the A/C line, cause you really have a right to be upset) stop whining! is all you read for news is the AM New York? nyc has the best transit system in the country for a major city and is the one decent city where you actually don't need a car. and i can ride it as much as i want for $70/ month?! the subway (not even counting buses) system is huge and runs all day. maybe it's not the paris metro but you're focusing the blame on the wrong people. blame pataki and albany and for that fact, the federal government. blame this country's lack of regional planning where instead we have local governments fight each other. blame the repeal of the commuter tax. and finally stop being such knee jerk reactionaries who do nothing but complain (or just move away!).
