If anybody missed last week's The Hold Steady show at Mercury, shame on you. You're probably a wuss. In that case, wow, you're in for a big week. Our TONY cover-boy (and new east village renter, swoon) Conor Oberst is playing, like, forty-seven shows this week. Man, when this guy moves in, he really moves in.
I'm gonna go a little out of order and get those out of the way ahead of time:

Tuesday, Wednesday AND Thursday, Bright Eyes at Town Hall, each show with Coco Rosie, Tilly and The Wall supporting. All ages, too. That should be fun -- a room full of screaming girls whose ages combined would still be younger than mine plus ten. At $25 a ticket, I imagine he won't have too much trouble paying the rent on his new Thompkins Square digs this month.
Secret: I like Bright Eyes. But I will never see that kid live again, until I'm at least 45, single, broken and ready to accept that I have nothing in life besides the opportunity to gawk at 16-year-old girls gawking at Conor Oberst. By then, though, I'm guessing it'll be Conor Oberst III.
And now, down to business.

Not in the mood for tears? How about power-pop? Ted Leo, old stand-by of Chisel not-quite-fame, is playing Rothko Tuesday night, with The Head Set, Apollo Sunshine and Chinese Stars (didn't they play a couple shows last week?). That should probably be a pretty kick-ass show, and it's a benefit for Sarah Flynn Of Spinart Records. Also, it's being put on by Audrey and Jasper, and they stamp their names on pretty reliable things.
Wednesday is a little weak, but The Tuesday Suits may put on a pretty good show at Southpaw that'll be worth checking out if you're into good indie rock and/or pierogies. (UPDATE: As per reader kathryn's attentive reading, please note that it *is* warsaw that sells pierogies, but I still say you can bring some in your purse or knapsack, if you want to eat them at Southpaw. I recommend sweet potato pierogies, they're GREAT.)
Thursday, I'd check out Craig Wedren (from Shudder to Think) upstairs at Pianos... it's only $5, and will probably be good. And if it's not, The Harlem Shakes, Human Television, Other Passengers and some other folks are playing downstairs for $7. If neither of those do it for you, I talked to some guy there the other day and he said they served the best burger in the LES, and while I haven't verified it, I'd say it'll probably be a pretty good night to give it a try.
Also, Death From Above 1979 at Mercury, if you're into the LOUD. You can check out the whole album for free at the Vice site by clicking on their name. The album's called "You're A Woman, I'm A Machine", which may be reason enough to see them alone.
Friday, perhaps a little South East Asia Relief Benefit? There's not much else to do, and Southpaw is hosting the event starting at 9pm, with a guest speaker at 9:30, live performances by Jean Grae and others, then DJ Snooze goes on at 11:30pm. It's $10, to charity, and they're accepting blankets, too. Prove we Americans can, independently, maintain some sort of decent individualistic foreign policy!
Saturday: Avoid The Bravery at all costs. Do not go to near North Six. Instead, if you must go out, see Oneida at Mighty Robot, or there'll probably be someone good spinning at misshapes.
I wouldn't mention this early, but if you want to get anywhere near the Arcade Fire shows next week, I'd start hunting craigslist postings asap, or else get your gang together and beat up some bloggers for theirs.

hmm, i always thought it was warsaw that served pierogies, not southpaw....
