It's no real news that there are fools on radio in the morning, but this is a little much. Gothamist read the story in the Post on Saturday, but thanks to hiphopmusic.com's investigation, we were able to hear the actual MP3 of the controversial Hot 97 Tsunami song that was played last week on Miss Jones in the Morning. The song mocks "chinks" and "Chinamen" (and "Africans") dying in the tsunami, and makes light of child slavery. While there is a tradition of racism (not to mention sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc.) in morning talk shows, there no reason to let radio personalities to get away with it.
Hot 97's apology consists of its morning staff contributing one week of salary to tsunami relief, but hiphopmusic has contact information for Emmis Communications (Hot 97's owner) plus other advertisers for people to complain to (we are going to complain). And when you listen to the clip, you'll hear the Miss Jones in the Morning crew square off against Miss Info.
The song itself is really disturbing, and not just because the singing is so out of key, and Gothamist transcribed the lyrics. WARNING: Do not click if you don't want to be seriously offended.
There was a time
When the sun was shining bright
So I went down to the beach to catch me a tan
Then the next thing I knew
A wave 20 feet high came and washed your whole country away
And all at once you could hear all the screaming Chinks
And no one was safe from the wave
There were Africans drowning
Little Chinamen swept way
You could hear God laughing "Swim You bitches, swim"
[Chorus]
So now you're screwed, it's a tsunami
You better run and better kiss your ass away
Go find your mommy
I just saw her float by, a tree right through her head, and now your children will be sold child slavery
[Repeat chorus]

Unbeleivable. Me, I think these Bozo's did this for the publicity. It would take a Compleat and Total Moron not to get a clue that this **MIGHT** offend some people...
Anyone know the contact info for the FCC?
I'd say forget the FCC, they always do more harm than good in these cases. Let this merely blight their reputation.
I'm surprised that the staff at Hot97 (like their listener base, mostly African American) has such poor judgement as to make fun of the disaster, plus use racial slurs in the process. I guess it's okay in their world to use racial slurs to refer to Asians - or pretty much anyone they feel like. These, of course, are the same people that become irrationally offended when anyone who's not African American uses the n-bomb in any context (even in simply quoting it from a rap song sung by an African American). They really should know better.
I'm sure Asians really don't care either way. It's not as if this sort of thing sprung up in an intelligent conversation. Anyone who knows anything about the Hot97 shows - they have a history of crossing the line in dumb ways for shock value, with people getting fired and all - would know not to take it seriously coming from that source.
So, they have to make donations, but did they issue an apology? Or are they unapologetic?
I'd love to force them to play a song making fun of 9/11 as punishment.
I don't think those who are offended, should idly sit by and complain. If you don't want things like this to happen you have to speak up against it.
Historically speaking, Asian Americans have always been complacent in terms of such issues. What's wrong with speaking up? It doesn't hurt to send emails of complaint to the radio station and to their advertisers on such abhorrent behavior. It's a lot better than complaining and not doing anything about it.
What's a radio?
So something like this gets you docked a week's pay. What do this Miss Jones and her staff have to do to get fired? Publish questionable documents about the President's National Guard stint?
Howard Stern is a lout, but the sum total of all his questionable behavior doesn't even come close to this garbage. Then again, he's white, which means different standards apply.
I do agree that Asians tend not to be the most quick to mobilize, but I think there are a lot of instances when Asians have tried to mobilize over racist actions/speeches...Given then Asians are simply 3% (about?) of the population, their voice is still diminished.
And I strongly encourage people to complain. I hate to imagine a world of limits, but there's pushing the envelope and then there's pooping on it.
Plus, "Asian" covers so much ground, you can't really lump us into a single group. Someone from Uzbekistan or India or Malaysia or Iraq isn't going to look at me and consider me a brother.
My take? The less attention we give to Hot 97, the better. It's cute that they're trying to out-Stern their morning rivals. BFD. I stopped listening to commercial radio 5 years ago and I haven't looked back. You just have to learn to expect dumbfuckery from dumbfucks.
What's going to happen? Sure, some advertisers will pull to save face, but once an apology is issued and they make some token firings, it'll be the same ol' same ol'.
Personally, I find their bastardization and dumbing down of hip hop just as offensive.
Sickening. As someone who has worked 9 years in radio and knows first-hand that being an absolute moron is REQUIRED to be a morning show DJ, I'm not surprised. But I am disgusted and hope those who wrote those nauseating lyrics live to regret it every day of their lives.
One of the members of the Show (Ms. Info) is Asian and is a frequent guest on VH1's "Best Week Ever". She had no problem introducing, playing, and laughing at this song on several occasions.
Thank god for my ipod.
Thank you Jen for posting this article with the lyrics. Sometimes the most effective way to end such stupidity and bigotry is simply to inform the public that it exists.
Desus, I couldn't care less if Ms. Info is Asian. Playing the Asian Card in defense of this song is itself offensive. Referring to Asians as "Chinks" is wrong (besides, China was not affected by the Tsunami, so the song makes no factual sense anyway, but I can deduce that Hot97 is doubly racist for assuming that anyone who looks "oriental" is in fact a "chink," or Chinese). It does not matter if Ms Info individually accepts the song's message.
I used to listen to Hot97 when I lived in NY, but I've moved on to Philly now and I have no idea how this is now being handled on the airwaves. But I can say this, it was interesting to hear the other hosts of the show felt it okay to use the words slurs "chink" and "chinamen" while also using the word "africans" instead of an equally biting slur. Maybe they felt like using a word other than "africans" would be offensive? Bingo.
It's stunts like these that get shock jocks bonuses. It generates a ton of attention. And since Asian-Americans [myself included] are thought of as outside of the "race debate" because we're all so good at math, are doctors and have a good work ethic, I don't think they will be punished, even with Korean-American Miss Info on board. I have no idea if she was introducing, playing and laughing at the song, but I did know her on a professional level when I worked with her at Vibe years ago. I wonder what's going on up in NY now around this.
Not to stick up for Miss Info, but if you listen to the media clip (check the link in the article) of the song, you can clearly hear Miss Info saying that she had nothing to do with the recording of the song and did not want to be connected with it in any way. Miss Jones goes on to yell at Miss Info, accusing her of thinking herself "superior" because she's Asian. The Todd guy goes on to say that he's going to "start shooting all asians" after Miss Jones made her "superior" comment.
It's amazing how low people can go to get publicity, but unfortunately this is defintely going to be very negative publicity. Apparently this is being picked up by the 11 PM news tonight, and I'm sure Hot 97's sponsors aren't that pleased.
Hatred and racial invective associated with hip-hop? I'm so not shocked!
I use to listen to Hot 97 but the morning show has become unlistenable...thus the publicity stunt. They are dying a slow death and you're hearing their last gasps. good riddance.
I'm a black man. I've been a professional in the hip hop business/recording world, for over a decade. I listened to the argument, and the song. I think, if Hot 97 has any sense, they will fire Ms. Jones, and give Ms. Info the lead chair as the new lead host of the show.
Even though I'm not Asian, I found the song very offensive, and I would hope that my Asian brothers and sisters understand that not all Black Americans are as insensitive as Ms. Jones and her band of fools.
The most interesting aspect of the song for me was how it caused me to consider where or if there are limits of "good" or "bad" taste. I think that there are none outside of personal or objective tastes.
I personally didn't like the song and didn't think it was funny. It was offensive to me but so what.
Give it the attention that you think it deserves.
If I had been directly affected by the disaster, perhaps I would have been more offended by the song but I wasn't. What's most disturbing to me is souding like a sanctimonious hypocritical jerk with self-serving and inconsistent views on so-called "tasteless jokes" and censorship.
Attack HOT97's bottom line by writing to their advertisers to persuade them that HOT97 is a dying radio station that is well beyond its prime and has to mock the deaths of 225,000+ people in order to attract any kind of market. Convince them that other NY hiphop stations are attracting more market shares and their advertising dollars will see better returns if invested in those stations. In addition, since politicians have all supported tsunami relief efforts, it may be useful to write to NY state and US representatives to let them know what HOT97 has done. Politicians can easily attract attention to an issue, which in this case is an issue that HOT97 wants as few people as possible to know about. Lastly, I do not know if HOT97's parent company is a publicly traded company, but if it is, petition large mutual funds to sell shares of the company. After all, would you want your hard earned dollars to be invested in such a company?
Also, thanks Cam for the post.
BrianVan, this song does not express the beliefs of all black people, or all hip hop fans. Don't tar an entire race or genre because of what stupid DJs at one station did. This is the same station that used to air Star & Buckwild. HOT97 has never aimed above the gutter, and while I'm not surprised that they would air a song like this, I'm still disappointed.
Wow. After Listening to "Miss Jones" berate "Miss Info", I have to say, What an Idiot she is and despite her words to the contrary, she is a Damm Fool. She Berates "Miss Info" for NOT joining in? Why not say "Can't you be as stupid As We are??"
Un-believable. They make a point of making it sound like "We are the World". Over 200,000 people dead and they Make a Parady Song??
I contacted all the comissioners on the FCC website, including the .mp3 link and hot97's feigned apology i hope they pull the plug on her morning show once and for all.
It's really too bad because they possess so much power to influence their audience of young people in NYC and all they fill their heads with is silly (and often misogynistic/homophobic/racist) gossip and humor. Can you imagine if the DJs were to discuss REAL issues affecting the community? I suppose it's a far-fetched idea with all of their corporate sponsors eager to rip off their audience and keep them in their place.
Hot 97 tries so hard to bring the magic that they once had with Star and Buc Wild. In this case Miss Jones and the crew went overboard. Hot 97 is so used to filling up the listeners' heads with lies anyway. Did you know they were behind the whole "Alliyah" thing and not just Star alone? All he is doing now at Power 105 is speaking the truth.
Sattelite Radio everyone. No more Morning Talk Radio Jackasses. I want radio for Music not some idiots opinion or desparate attempt for attention. Put 'em out of business.
I'm making a song about all the Africans with AIDS. It's chock full of N-bombs too. Stuff about kids with huge deformed stomachs and flies all over their faces who eat dog-sh*t all day.
angry asian, you are not different that the hosts of HOT97.... pathetic
Write to Hot 97's sponsors and ask them to withdraw from the "Miss Jones in the Morning" program. Miss Jones will understand that.
Get their sponsors' info from http://www.hiphopmusic.com/index.html
sorry about that - just mad. Made an offensive comment just to see how some would take it because a lot of Americans thinks its OK to make fun of me and my race.
Somehow the PC-radar doesn't cover us. However, that doesn't mean that we're all meek and obedient punching bags.
how do we get these people off the radio
This is all that has to be said:Fire them. FIRE THEM ALL. Fire the producers who allowed that crap to get on air; fire the host who thought that was okay to put on the cart. Fire anyone and everyone involved with that cheap-assed stunt. It wasn't funny, and it wasn't cool. And as a black guy, I'm offended; really, now...did we really have to stoop to that level? Can we be funny without having to pull that crap? Seriously, were they drunk when they thought that was a good idea? That just pisses me off, the thought that all those people, who put "thought" into production of any show, would all sit around and think to themselves, "Now THAT'S funny! Let's do it!".
Fire them.
A week's pay to help donate to the victims isn't enough; not for that BS. In DC back in '98, we had an incident where a dumb-ass white guy made a dumb-ass comment about dragging black men behind trucks, and he got run from the air within days. And these dumb asses deserve the same treatment; it was just as offensive, if not worse, than the comments abbout dragging people behind trucks. So they, too, should get run off the air all the same. It was offensive, racist, insensitive, unfunny, and just plain stupidity. Something like that will never be funny. Never. And I'll say this to close: When I drive through New York going forward, it's Sirius, CD's, The "Majic" station, or WFAN...or it ain't on my radio. All the more to avoid crap like this.
The FCC has congressional authority to revoke a station license for "indecent" and "profane" broadcasts as well as impose a fine. FCC Fact sheet here: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/obscene.html
GET ANGRY, TAKE ACTION:
I urge all of you who are offended to write to fccinfo@fcc.gov with the following information (which includes everything the FCC asks for to determine their course of action):
During the week of January 16th- January 21st, WQHT, (also known as Hot 97), a local radio station in New York City, has willfully and repeatedly aired a highly offensive parody mocking the victims of the tsunami tragedy while using racial epithets.
The following is an excerpt of the lyrical contents, which aired between the hours of 6am-10am:
"...all at once you could hear the screaming chinks and no one is safe from the wave. There were Africans drowning, little chinamen swept away. You could hear God laughing "swim you bitches swim..."
The following link is an actual recorded segment from the broadcast:
http://www.3030radio.com/longer_hot97_tsunami.mp3
In the middle of the segment one of the DJs can be heard saying "I'm gonna start shooting Asians."
I hereby request the revocation of the station license, or at the very least, a substantial fine for every instance it was aired.
Your Name
Mailing Address
Daytime Phone
i say everybody should just email the companies who sponsor this morning show. Honestly, the radio station does not care what happens with fines and regulations etc...they just care if they still get money from their sponsors and advertisers. I say just email the sponsors and show them your disdain for supporting such idiots. These companies will publicly end their relationship with HOt 97, and then other individuals will not want to associate themselves with Hot 97 either.
Stupid NIGGER!
Miss Jones and even more Todd what's his name are all too typical of the savage ghetto nigger mentality or should I say of "Animal Americans" as a race. They should both be hung from a tree and lynched -and I would gladly supply the ropes and gasoline!
Im so very sorry to say..but F*CK HER B*TCH ASS and mr toddles!! i've just heard the little arguement that went on with miss info and miss what ever her name is jones...i'm pretty sure if someone else of another race played a song talkin' shit of african americans..she'd be shitin' all over the place just like everyone else is reguardin' the tsunami song....She sure doesn't want to be discriminated on..because she should have a good sense that she's just another "NIGGA" on the streets!!! HA HA back to you.................sorry..i'm not racism... just an outraged asian american who's speakin' out on my be half....reguarding' this non sense.
When you target the DJs, they get publicity. That is what they want. Do not give them the satisfaction.
When you lash out against other African-Americans because the actions of these idiots, you might as well have co-written and co-recorded that song yourself. Wake up.
Instead of ranting pointlessly here, contact the businesses that end up paying the DJ's salaries.
Like you, I don't think 1 paycheck is nearly enough. Make Hot 97 take away all of them.
Forever.
i do not listen to hot 97, it's not really my type of music, hip pop. i'm more into rock music. so i just found out about this sick joke on the news, i am offended and outraged by it, since i am asian american, i should. it's no surprise to me that someone is going to make jokes about the tsunami incident, i thought someone eventually will. i was right, there's so much racism in this world, it's not surprising at all. i wish for world peace and i know it's never going to happen.
remember, just as the majority of asians are not members of the chinese mafia, not all african americans feel this way. hopefully people will not use this sorry excuse for entertainment to further alienate relatioships between races. brianvan, of course people like you are no better than the morning host to even think that all people think the same.
All they want is attention. Since negative attention is attention lets not give them any at all. They should loose their jobs, and pay up. A weeks pay is not worth a life.
JEEZ
THE FCC doen't have anything to do with this issue
it doesn't break any of their rules whatsoever.
it's like a child saying I'm gonna sue you for everything your worth.
Read the rules!!
Offensive [yes] stupid [yes] lame [yes]
FCC offense [NO]
I'm Asian myself, and I've been reading some posts by Asians responding to this radio BS. MANY of them are not responding in a dignified manner by using racial slurs against African Americans i.e. "Ms. Jones is just another typical ghetto n*gger". Like THAT'S really going to solve anything?
I'm guessing most of the people responding to this radio broadcast are Asian anyway. People usually don't care unless THEY are the victim.
I'm an African American female and I can not express how truely disgusted I was to hear the Tsunami Song. Every human being should be offended and appauled to hear such indifference and ignorance to the lost of human lives. Ms. Jones gave a half-ass apology and moved on to other topics. Once the pressure was on they gave one week of salary. Now that's funny, a week's salary does not mend the communities you've offended with this insenitive and racist song. I would sign any and all petitions to have everyone involved in the making of the Tsunami song fired and black listed from radio/talk shows.
I have read most of the comments posted on this site involving the Tsunami song. I was embarrassed and offended when I heard the parody. I felt that those who were stupid enough to air this song, record this song and play it should be fired. I also believe that the management who allowed this song to be played for several days should be fired. But I must say that after reading some these posted comments, I am just as embarrassed and offended.
These are some of the most racists; hate filled comments made by so called "Angry" Asian and White folk. Yes, these folks might be angry, but they are just as racist. Their comments tell how they truly feel about African Americans. Truly racist people justify their racism by stating the obvious, that "I am angry", followed by "I am not a racist...but..." This was a silly, stupid racist filled, ignorant song that should never have been put on the air at a responsible station with competent management. In no way is this a reflection of an entire race, music genre or morning shows contingency. Ignorance has no color, ethnic, racial, economic, music genre, ect. And when incidents like this happens, (and it happens more often than we hear about) we don't stoop to the level of the few who perpetrated the act. Unless of course, you're just being who you truly are.
Ive been reading everyones comments and I feel like I should add my own.I WAS a big fan of the Miss Jones show till I heard that ignorant song they played. Its 2005 people and its sad to see that such ignorance still exists and its even sadder that its broadcasted to all the youth in the tri-state area!!We are moving backwards instead of fowards, Im a cuban/italian american and was extremely offended by their ignorance even though it didnt touch on my races--200,000+ people are dead which means 200,000+ families are affected!I cant even put into words how mad I am about this because there is no need for such ignorance, but you have to remember that the material had to be approved before it was aired, so instead of just pointing fingers at miss jones and staff im putting the entire station on blast because if people didnt start complaining the station never would of taken any action! So I partly feel its not fair to put ALL the blame on the morning show staff.I have friends of all races and everyone one of them found that song offensive, I woud just reallylike to know what they were thinking when they came up with that--I think they new that since star and buc were back on the air they needed something shocking to get ratings--and you know what it worked and at the same time its gonna cost you your job, so all I gotta say is "IM LAUGHIN AT YOU NOW"! maybe miss jones can cut a solo album now--LMFAO---
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest--
"...I fight for the things I believe in, with all the weapons at my disposal.." Che Guevara
There are no real apologies , until Jones and crew admit they were wrong, and they intentionally disregarded the feelings of others. Their statements aren't a sign on remorse over doing wrong, only a ploy to get their butts out of hot water. They have offered nothing but excuse. Only one thing to do, FIRE the offender, and suspend their licences.
To Mr. Honest Guy,
How could you call anybody an animal when you're talking reckless about stringing up black people and you supplying the rope. I dont know what you thought but this ain't the 1700's. First the song had nothing to do with your race at all, if anybody should or would have reason to make these kind of statements, it should be a person of Asian descent. But I expect that from a person who probably has a former slave owner or two in his immediate family. Like I said this isn't the 1700's and comments like that could only be made within the comforts of your computer. Those words will never come out your mouth, ESPECIALLY IN NEW YORK. I don't have to call you a racial slur because I know what you are and so does everybody else who read what you wrote.
In response to the Song itself, it was extremely insensitive and offensive, not to me, but I can understand and feel anyone else's pain who might have lost family members. A tragedy like that is not to be mocked because it could of happened anywhere to anyone, EVEN YOU MR. HONEST GUY.
I am outraged that a radio station actually allows such a degrading song to be aired! An apology statement and a relief effort through cash donation is simply a nugatory effort that will not compensate for the hurt they have caused. Even though words cannot be taken back, let them repent through actions since actions speak louder than words! I suggest that Ms. Jones et. al. be sent to the tsunami hit area for one week of volunteer work! Let them witness the tragedy and reflect upon themselves!
I believe that Miss Jones and the Morning Show should be able to come back to work for Hot97. I do not believe they should be held responsible for something their Management Department agreed upon to be played on the radio station. They have took full responiblity for writing and singing the song by giving a week's pay to the Tsunami Relief fund. If anything I think the jobs of Management should be put on the line and quustioned because they're the overseers and approved of the song being played on air. So in my opinion its Management's mistake. Thank You Bert from Jersey
When someone hits you and you hit them back, that's not violence; merely reciprocity. You shouldn't be criticizing Asians who were transgressed against for shoveling back the same shit they were shoveled. Having said that, the crew should be immediately fired, and I have written to the FCC to ask them to revoke the license of Hot 97 and I urge you to do the same. The world would be better off without Ms. Jones' dubious intellectual contributions nor those of her crew, and Asians would go back to minding their own business and not attacking other races. She's also really stupid, since our bankrupt government is kept afloat by the Bank of Japan and the Chinese government buying treasuring bonds.
From a native born white American.
Sorry, meant U.S. Treasury bonds.
WE NEED THE MAYOR OF NYC TO SPEAKUP
LETS GET THE PRESIDENT OF USA TO SPEAKUP!
IF IT TAKE MONTHS OR YEARS WE ALL CAN DO IT AS ONE! THIS IS NOT A RACE ISSUE
SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT DONT GIVE UP!
EVERYONE PLEASE CONT THIS EFFORT AGAINST HATE&IGNORANCE!
I say heads should roll at the radio station.
They're "professional" radio DJs who made a major mistake at their jobs. If your employees lost multimillion dollar accounts while offending people at the same time, wouldn't you fire them?
I don't believe you have to be Asian to be offended by the Hot97 tsunami song, everyone should be offended. This is about being a decent human being. Hundreds of thousands of people died due to the tsunami. To mock another's suffering is dispicable. That song is beyond ignorant, stupid, or foolish... it is simply evil.
By the way, some of the comments left above are just as repulsive as the song itself.
I hate the fact that after 9-11 everyone in NY was so close to each other. It didn't matter what color, race,or what your sexual preference was. it didn't matter if you were republican or democrat. For that tragic time we were all finally ONE. We were there for one another. What Happened people?? The morning show on hot 97 are going to pay for the rest of their live for what they did. No one is going to accept your fake apologies , cause to me they mean nothing I am an Italian-American, and I feel very offended by that song. If a small child came from sri lanka, that lost a mommy, and they asked why you found that song funny what would you say to that child as they looked up at you with tears in thier eyes. How could you you?? How would you have felt if Asians sang a song about the 9-11 attacks on NY?? It wouldn't be so funny now would it? These people are going through the toughest time in their lives and they don't need that bullshit from arrogant inconsiderate people. They lived a tough life before the tsunami, and now they have it even worse. God Bless the children and their families. I will pray for all of you!
I guess I do undrestand the anger of whites and Asians that something like this did not have further discplinary actions taken against it. However, making racist comments about black people or merely lumping us all together in the same category just shows that whether people say their feelings on the radio, or just in response someone else feelings on the radio, ALL OF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. It shows that same ignorance, and I'm sorry it took the ignorant Miss Jones to bring it out of you.
For the person who made the comment, "I'm making a song about all the Africans with AIDS. It's chock full of N-bombs too. Stuff about kids with huge deformed stomachs and flies all over their faces who eat dog sh*t all day." HOW IGNORANT WAS THAT. If you read the words to the song, you'd se Miss Jones' mocked "Africans" (A number of East Afrcan countries on the continent of Africa were hit as well) too. She obviously doesn't even associate herself with the people of Africa who suffered, so you just shouted out your own racial biases. You mocked Africans with Miss Jones because she mocked Asians. You're both have issues.
I was a listener to the radio show a few years ago, but after returning to NY, I was appalled at the ignorace displayed on the show. After stopping briefly on hot 97 one morning and hearing a mockery of Arabs, THAT was when I decided to stop listening to the show, AND I'M BLACK. I could say I was slighty embarrassed that this is considered a hip-hop/black morning show, but I quickly remembered that that is not what hip hop or being black is about — so guess what I did? — I turned that crap off. And guess why? Because there are other black and hip hop stations that don't promote the same ignorance. See, we are not all alike :)
If you really do have an issue with the mockery of the tsunami victims, get them off he air. You have every right to, but just know, regardless of color, ignorant people will remain ignorant. DON'T BE ONE!
I completely agree with "The Truth".

There is a growing trend amongst african american radio stations that taking swipes at fellow people of color is fair game. If you wish to experience respect for your own then you should have respect for others. It is even more egregious when we as people of color degrade each other just for laughs. There are plenty of intelligent entertainers who don't take the easy way out and actually have a message. Ms. Jones and the entire Hot97 crew perpetuate negative stereotypes not only of the people they were mocking but themselves.
These clowns should be thrown off radio ah la Opie & Anthony.
These clowns should be thrown off public radio ah la Opie & Anthony.
I wholeheartedly apologize about that African-song remark. It was made in the heat of the moment as a bad attempt to illustrate the hypocrisy I feel that Miss Jones and her crew embody. In doing so, I have become part of the same hypocrisy and deserve any criticisms posted.
I just felt that if the situation was different and a parody-song about the enormous human tragedy in Africa was sung to Miss Jones and her associates, it would have greatly offended them. Such a song-parody would never even have been considered to be aired. I sometimes feel that the new air of "political-correctness" does not apply to Asians and we are somehow open and legitimate targets for derision. Having formerly lived in South Central Los Angeles, it seems to me that a significant portion (albeit not the majority) of African-Americans and Latino-Americans seem to regard my race as obedient and meek punching bags.
I cannot for the life of me understand why Miss Jones would want to participate in this fool ass stunt when she walked off the show a few years earlier with the Aliyah incident. Futhermore I feel that heads need to roll from the top all the way down. Don't they have people who approve the material that these clowns put on the air ways. I don't even listen to Hot 97. Now they never have to worry about me ever listening. I think it was the most tasteless and disgusting thing I have ever heard of and it saddens me that people would find humor in such a tragic event and no weeks worth of salary could ever make up for it.

the whole morning show and all their staff should be fired! and banned from ever having anything to do with deciding what gets aired.
bad enough to even consider playing the so-called "song", but to actually follow through with it!?!?! what were they thinking? they obviously weren't.
and what about the person/people who had anything to do with recording such trash?
what is our society coming to? where's the compassion? it frightens me to think that there are people out there who think the tragedies of others is amusing. they obviously have not had any of their own.

I was shocked and appalled to find out what had happened, both because of the racist, derogatory things that the DJs had said onair, and because of the egregious things they had sung about when mocking the 100,000+ people who had died in that tragedy. If anybody is so inclined, here's a link to a website that contains an mp3 of the argument that ocurred right before the airing of the song as well as the song itself. It also includes a petition against the radio DJs:
http://www.petitiononline.com/endhate/petition.html
Instead of wrongly assuming that African-Americans support the ignorance and stupidity of Ms. Jones and her cohorts, constructive critism should be sent to the FCC (Federal Communications Comission) at the following email address: fccinfo@fcc.gov...
Better yet, attend the demonstration that NYC Councilman John Liu is leading on Friday, January 28th between 11 am and 12 noon in front of HOT 97 WQHT-FM Studios at 385 Hudson St (between West Houston and Clarkson Sts.).

I'm from md and I don't get that station out here, but I heard on the news this morning that the tsunami song was played on air. I can't understand how these "people" would get so worked up over someone using the dreaded "n" word, yet have no qualms about insulting people of the asian community. I bet if the shoe were on the other foot, they'd be up in arms. I'm african american, and believe me, it surprises me that anyone of any race can be so evil and harbor such hatred within themselves. I hope they get fired. I bet people are pelting their cars with rotted fruits and veggies as we speak.
i can hardly contain my anger. for me it was re-emphasized last night when i was walking to a bus stop in bayside, queens, a group of 5 black teenagers(boys) accompanied by two girls approached me, and one ignorant teenager in the group asked me how do you say i want to smack the shit out of you in chinese? i was caught off guard by what his exact words were since i didn't know this kid and wasn't even looking when he asked me, so i asked him what did he say? to repeat himself, he didn't respond. so i replied by saying that he was a punk ass and left for the bus stop. he came after me, but i was already down near the bus and he said something, but i couldn't hear what he was saying? i asked him once again what did you say? he didn't seem to say anything and i couldn't hear him, so i left, it was getting late and i needed to catch the bus. i really regret not taking any action physically against that jerk since he probably thinks he can just approach any asian on the street and provoke them. if my hands weren't already injured in a previous fight i had, i would not have hesitated to retaliate physically immediately against that punk. i can reassure you that i'm not ignorant. i know african americans are not all like this, but i can tell you that those jerks on hot 97 are not unique. i wish i could do something about those hot 97 punks as well.
Miss has always been the peace barrier on the morning show. Todd lynn and Miss Jones had more than once disgrace the public from racial and disable human beings. Some weeks ago Todd Lynn was making a mockery on disable and mentally challenge children. I was disgusted and appalled by his rude and racial comments being a black woman myself living in Brooklyn. Miss Info and Dj Enuff told him to stop he has gone too far and all they got was crude comment from Todd Lynn who was pushing the bad comments about challenge kids. There was alot of angry New York callers that day but Hot 97 at that time though did nothing of it and by Hot 97 allowing such mockery then; It was a matter of time before it got even worst. (In other words it could of been prevented if Hot 97 paid attention to what the hell there employees were saying on live air.)
They should keep Miss Info on the show and not allow Miss Jones or Todd Lynn to work on any radio station. They need to be barred
While I must say I did not care for the song one bit, I have one thing to say to every one out there..... TURN YOUR DAMN RADIOS OFF!!!!! Maybe there is some sick demented person out there that actually found the song funny and if he did it's his GOD given right to. Screw the FCC and any little punishment they can come up with. Their is always another media for these personalities, XM or Sirus (remember O&A now on XM). You can right all the letters and cry about it all you want but the best revenge is just to never listen to that station again. If you actually heard the song when it aired, I could understand people being really upset, but if you never actually heard it or you only listened to it after the fact because of all the hype around, you have only yourself to blame for it. Which to Power 105.1 for Starr and Buckwild in the Morning if you don't want to listen to Hot 97.1 anymore.
This stuff is really ridiculous. And our society has taken it upon themselves to be all proud of who we are and where we came from. And it does occur to me that asian people have become lost in all that and that we apparently are to busy getting good grades to care about racism. This is beyond the whole asian thing by the way. Africans, Sri Lankans, Indians, Thai, and A LOT of other family in this country(China wasn't acutally hit that bad btw) all suffered from the tragedy. If you have the nerve to laugh at 200K people dying, then have the audacity to claim "God's laughing" then you seriously need to sit down and have self reflection on what kind of person you are.
You know what also is appauling? The racism that occurs between African Americans and Africans. That probably explains why MIss Jones and Todd the Retard can poke fun at them because all of a sudden people in 3rd world nations with totalitarian governments and a high AIDS rate, can be made fun of. African Americans like Miss Jones have seperated themselves from the "African" heritage, and therefore it seems as if they have no feelings to see minorities suffer. Just a reminder, Africans were tormented for hundreds of years. If you forget where your people have come from, you'll never get to get any farther.
Children have died. Families broken apart. Lives destroyed. If you can seriously poke fun at that, then i really can do nothing but pray for you because you need all the forgiveness you can get.
Protest hot97. Much love to EVERYONE.
fuck chinks and niggers!!!! INDIAN POWA!!!!!!
the same day of the tsunami song, a nevada weatherman was fired for misspeaking on air. He referred to MLK day as "Martin Luther Coon King Day". Now, if you hear the audio, it sounds as if he accidently blended Luther and King, and quickly corrected himself, oblivious to the meaning of what he actually said. This is further supported by the fact nobody edited out the recorded misstep. But he got fired faster than you could say racism. btw, this weatherman is white. big surprise, huh? and this atrocity on hot97 goes on for almost a week before any action is taken, and only after intense public pressure. (link to weatherman story)
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2005/01/17/state1420EST0052.DTL
the song in it of itself, while racially insensitive, is not horribly offensive race wise, to me. yeah, they say chinks, and chinaman, and whatever... i can deal with that. it's no worse than anything many people say and think about the darker race. the horror is the insensitivity towards the 160000+ people who died, and the millions more who will be affected for the rest of their lives... treating it like it was nothing. the race thing just makes it much more bitter pill to swallow...
the racist injustice occurs in the discussion, where miss jones and the others rail on miss info. there, the true colors come out, and you see the hate that dwells inside these djs. turning it into a black and yellow thing, failing to see the offensiveness of the song, and making miss info the "goody two shoes asian girl who's too good for blacks". when in reality, she fails to see the hypocrisy of everything she says to her, where the creator of "ghettopoly" should be sentenced to death, but it's ok for her to f with asians. then the dude says "i'm gonna go shoot some asians", that is just pure hate that came out in the heat of the moment, which is usually an accurate reflection of someone's true feelings.
those guys deserve to be fired and blacklisted from radio.
i think its hilarious stupid chinks
First of all, I believe 9/11 was a fake day in
the first place. Why all of the sudden when
something dramatic happens and a nation falls
into peril, we come together but after the storm
has weathered down, we separate? We should all
unite as "brothers" and "sisters," but I guess
we're too ignorant for that. And to those who
keep saying that the people of Hot97 are all n-
ggers or the people listen to them are porch
monkeys, what are we accomplishing from that?
And the word chinks? Grow the hell up people,
times are changing, that doesn't mean we need to
be held back with the mentality of living 100
years ago...
Hot 97 (along with some you racist heads out
there) needs a REALITY CHECK! Didn't they learn
from making fun of Aaliyah's death? What about
when Star called Jennifer Lopez a "rice-and-
bean" eating Mexican? That was foul. And they
should know better, they represent urban
culture. Now what I would like to know is what
if a White station like Howard Stern did stuff
like that? He did something like that...remember
the Selena incident? Or Opie and Anthony? How
many incidents are good enough to air so we can
feed radio DJs' paychecks? The only person on
Hot 97 that should stay is Miss Info. She
defended herself and Miss Jones was trying to
knock her down. Personally, I'm glad Miss Jones
is gone...she had my respect when she defended
Aaliyah but she lost 100% of my respect when she
made fun of the tsunami victims. She had to know
that was tacky.
its a sad thing that people would actually make a mockery out of something like that, but for everyone to sit here and cry over it, you making those mockerers look good. Don't u see that all they want is the publicity. They sittin here laughing now because they see how many people are reacting to it. You givin in people. This is america, people are gonna joke around cuz thts just how sick they are, but don't give into tht crap. Its a really sad thing forreal, but you givin those sick individuals just what they want.
Seffy_sef you dumb ass, Indian people are Asian too! India is part of Asia. You are not your own race. So go Fuck yaself you ignorant fool.
Anybody who think this is funny is a damn fool and anybody willing to lower their self respecting standards to start race bashing is equally ignorant. Hot97 should be shut down, fined and whatever else. It should have been their friends, families and followers who were lost in the Tsunami. That way can rid ourselves of their ignorance.
Honest Guy is a "NIGGER"!
Angry Asian is a "NIGGER"!
. . . Alright, comin from texas i don't know shit of "miss jones" but if that's her at the top of the page, I can light her ugly ass up verbally equivilent as she does of the horrific tragedy in asia. Any sane person knows what the "line" is and where you can mess around. Where does this hideous nigger get off blasting the 200,000 people dying in god's name? "with the tree in your mom's head" statement? How about "with my dick in YOUR mom's black ass" back in slavery times? This isn't me but things like this tend to break my views on society. Nuff said, i don't got too much time to elaborate on my thoughts of this shit...
Jay from Texas - Thank you for not elaborating on your thoughts. I'd recommend you take it further by keeping your mouth entirely shut. You obviously don't have anything intelligent to say. Stop being such an ignorant racist.
First of all, the Tsunami atrocity is nothing to laugh about. We, as Americans, cannot even begin to fathom the excruciating pain that those people in the affected countries are experiencing at this very moment. With over 200k+ victims, there are families that will never be able to emotionally recover from this disaster. There are hundreds of thousands of children who have been orphaned because of this tragedy. There is not one bit of irony or humor that can even be found in this travesty. I can't even see how a group of people can take the time to find the words to write this ignorant song. I feel relieved knowing that these pathetic people who wrote it will inevitably get what's coming to them.
Given that we are entitled the First Amendment right to free speech and press, there are fine boundaries to exercising that right. Radio stations, particularly, need to exercise discretion in the material that they broadcast over the air. Radio is an influential medium that should be used to express substantive views and legitimate issues about our society, not to be used to perpetuate ignorance and create racial tension for the purpose of hype and publicity. Also to those people on this discussion board who are merely using it as an opportunity to call out racial slurs to Asians and African-Americans, you'll eventually get what's coming to you, too. Let's not give these ignorant people the satisfaction of allowing this song to cause more racial tension between us all. That's the whole purpose of this stupid song- to create more negativity and get arise out of us. We, as educated people, shouldn't even feed into that sh*t but take the necessary recourses to make HOT 97 regret that they ever allowed that song to be played on the air. Hot 97 staff and their owners need to be held fully accountable for playing this song and face the ramifications of their actions. Half-ass apologies and one-week salaries to the Tsunami aid doesn't even begin show how sorry they should be. I know many people will be glad to see when they've been made an example of and lose their license as a result of it.
Hello, I am the author of "Beauty in the Age of Sleaze," a non-fiction critique of American popular culture, and I'm now makig a documentary film, "Beauty and the Sleaze." I will be filming (for a Demo) in front of Hot97 studios on Monday morning (Jan 31) getting reaction from people to the Tsunami "parady" song; I hope to get some of the station's employees to comment. It's heartening to see such outrage at this--I don't think these folks are "cluless," there'a real mean-spiritedness involved. Some would argue the parady could constitute hate speech, which brings this issue into the legal area. Good to see healthy dialogue on this important issue
Hello, I am making a documentary film, "Beauty and the Sleaze," based on my book, "Beauty in the Age of Sleaze," and will be filming at Hot97 FM's studios in New York on Monday morning, Jan 31, to get reaction from people to the Tsunami "parody." I hope to get some Hot97 employees on tape. Great to see outrage at this; they are not "clueless," they are meanspirited, in my opinion. The parady could possibly be construed as hate speech, which brings it into very serious territory. My name BTW is X.A. Cronin.
Hey Mark, upon commenting on my ignorance on this forum, what were your comments on THIS forums TOPIC? I don't seem to think that the topic was "What does MARK think of?". So let's just stick to why we're here and blow me. I had my words to say, go find some of your own to say on the topic.
I did not hear the whole song and I do not think I have to. Making fun of a trajedy is horrible but lets keep in mind a joke is a joke. People get made fun of all the time. This is actually the law of the land. It is the first amendment. FREEDOM of SPEECH. I am black and I am old enough to know how the world is. We have been victimized and called names for as long as I can remember including up to date. I do not recall any apologizes or anyone getting fired for all the beating, abuse, and humilation that we received. You know what we did about it? We ignored people, took the shit people did and said to us and we kept our heads up. The bottom line is GET OVER IT. People let things get to them to fast. Stop trying to be a judge and let the man upstairs do his job. Only he knows the truth and the origin of the song. LET HIM JUDGE
Wow! it's unbelievable how such ignorant people can make it so far and still keep a closed mind towards life as a whole. I'm sure these people celebrate munching on japanese/chinese/south-east asian cuisine on a daily basis. Even after appreciating these gifts from the earth these people still have the nerve to talk out the anus about something they don't even care about let alone know nothing about in the first place. I hate those kinds of people. They never appreciate anything. If you were to give them something they'd still look towards the negative aspect of the situation and on top of that expect more. Why? beats me...wake the F'ck up...it's 2005 now...mind your business...handle what's yours...stop being a homo and get your dough up...Most of these ignorant people don't even know why they hate, so stop trying to be a rapper when you really a snitch...
Jay,
Are you kidding? "Ignore" racism, "take the shit" and "get over it"? Have you heard of the Civil Rights Movement? The reason we people of color don't need to use separate bathrooms or sit in the back of the bus in 2005 is because we fought and said no, this NOT the law of the land. Racism is so hurtful and rampant that it sometimes feels like that's just how it is, but we can't give into such hopelessness.
You sure are ignorant blacks if you take this country's freedom of speech and say let them use it. There is something called freedom of speech but there's a line drawn. As african americans you all should have experienced enough of it in the past on this 'freedom of speech' issue and some of you still support it when it's used like how miss jone's morning show uses it? Ya'll supporters of this are the same as ms jones because if a joke is a joke maybe since you hard learners dont think outside the box that often , let me put it outside the box for you. OK freedom of speech= so i can say pretty much what i want and you fools say it's okay to..so let's start calling blacks niggers and apes and monkeys since they look like em shall we? it's freedom of speech and all in fun right? DO you guys like that? That still isnt as low as laughing at 200,000+ dead ppl, children in a tragedy.
Tonya..if you say the nigger word means for any race..then you african americans should be ashamed of yourselves for using that word and keeping it in EXISTENCE even in this day and age in your foul languages and in your rap and also callin each other niggas. And when some other race uses it..the black man is the first person to be offended..lol. Get your logic straightened out please..out of your denial you're trying to make ms jones seem like a normal person. Well..100% of normal ppl with morals and principles are against yours and jonesy's and the producer's beliefs.
First of all, "HelenS", before you single me out and tell me what you want realize that your dumbass didn't read MY comment but "ThatSister"s. Second, "ThatSister" don't lay that bullshit that you "just take it with your head's held up high". BULLSHIT! EVERY time that something like this is brought up fucking Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton is the first motherfuckers to wanna sue and blast on the media. There's also an entire organization for this type of thing..."NAACP???". So don't pass that bullshit off here and say that african americans just "take it" and "hold there heads up high". They retaliate and yada yada yada.
First, you all are missing my point. I did not say what the show did was right, I said that this type of thing happens all the time. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson take care of the visible problems not all of them. By you commented the way you did talking about niggers and monkeys, even though you were just trying to make a point, it still shows that you have it in you and things will not change. The KKK still exists in you and every other person that still has the nerve to talk like that. Those comments do not get to me because I am bigger than that. That was not the first time and it will not be the last. Like I said before there is only one JUDGE and we all have to stand before him no matter what backround you come from.
this goes to "that sister" cuz its pissing me off... ok we know all that stuff about the kkk and we agree with u its wrong and thats good that your keeping ur head high congratts keep it up...but again ur turning this convo about urself when it has nothing to do with that.. im sure ur bothered by it when u say ur not cuz u keep mentioning it... no offense it has nothing to do with the kkk or u being called that n word its about azns n being stereotyped and making fun of thousands of people dead... and its true asians dont get as much publicity of these kinds of things as much as others do.. people make fun of chinese people on the norm.. and by the way did you know that tsunami didnt hit newhere near china? its so ignorant that they use chinamen and u gotta understand as asian myself it gets us mad because we have taken that abuse for so long... example whenever i play basketball in the park im the only non black playing ...people be like" o who u got?" i got "chinaman" right there..im not evwen chinese i jes hate that sterotype i kno never to say that if there was one black guy i wouldnt be like o i got the african guy ..dont say ihave kkk in me im jes making a points that its wrong.. then they making fun of thousands of dead people.... so ur telling us to take a joke?!! lady weve been taking it more than u kno
hey sista. Al sharpton and Jesse jackson only cry on visible problems..not all as u say it..only the visible things to them (which are the colored black ppl) lol. IT's ashame they're not doing anything outspoken when something happens within their race.. again it's not supposed to be a race thing. So tell al and jesse that and why are they hiding their power now when it comes to something against them? SOme dummy might say it's hilarious..so i say you're all a bunch of niggers if the resolution is miss jones and her pet monkey staying ..they're saying that their type of free speech is ok. Good luck with the discrimination against you black ppl this time..
Al and jessse are the first to spk as well as NAACP to complain on police brutality on their race but lookin at the cops shows it's many times that the cops are forced to do their violence in order to subdue the convict who is running away or fighting back or has weapons. In this case..asians didn't do anything to jonesy and her ape or that producer spik. But they used your type of freedom of speech to attack asians and you niggers who say it's ok because of the law of the 1st amendment are niggers. I would like to use your type of freedom of speech which is still not as low as the tsunami song and see how u all would feel with just a couple of lines. Go get hanged like the old days u niggers on trees and get owned by slaveowners and i hope it feels good on your neck and swim on cotton fields uncle tom. That just relives the past dont it Nigger? it's ok right? freedom of speech ? dumb nigger
OKAY>>>>all i have to say is that i luv the music they play on hot 97, but i CANT STAND THE DJS>... they suck...how many times do they have to play a stupid racial song b4 they learn
To the guy that keeps commented to that sistar. Everything that you said in that paragraph proves my point exactly. For the asian guy you will never be associated with the KKK in my eyes because that is predominately blamed on one race. Asians are envied that is why they are talked about just like black people. We too have many different races of the black race but we are not divided based on that. Neither are Asians. These people that say these things are ignorant, they do not know any better. My point is that if your not black you are white. THis is how America was. Recently even on appications they have changed this section. Believe it or not you are still considered miniorities. Asians are the smartest most dedicated people living today. Blacks are envied for our color, figures, and take no shit attitudes. Whites have supremacy. THat is the way it goes and as long as you are envied and people are jealous of you, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE TALKED ABOUT AND MOCKED. IN SCHOOL, IN THE STREETS, AT YOUR JOB, IN THE FLESH, SIX FEET UNDER, SOMEONE WILL ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. IF YOU WORRY ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE SAID ABOUT YOURSELF OR YOUR RACE YOU WILL BE WORRYING FOREVER. lET THE MAN UPSTAIRS FO HIS JOB.
Though some people may think that what was said was offensive, what about the big picture. Everyone in the world is being sympathetic about the destruction in those countries and want to send them money. Why? We have tsunami in this country every day. They say that people are homeless and don't have food. i can go outside right now in the US, Jersey and see homeless people that need food. Carity starts at home. With all the support coming from around the world and local jobs in our area we could fix some of our own problems. All the abandon house could be used as homeless shelter or sell them that people can pay taxes on them. The attention brought by Ms Jones should be used to turn this into a positive. Everyone is sending money abroad. Some of this money will be stolen or misused. Lets focus on home
CHINESE COMMUNITY URGED TO PROTEST AT TSUNAMI SONG
"The Chinese Community in the United Kingdom have been urged to show solidarity with Chinese Americans in New York and protest at the cruel and racist 'Tsunami Song' aired on Hot 97, the hip hop radio station in New York.
Chinese Americans have been demonstrating outside the Hot 97 radio station in New York after the racist song attacked the tsunami affected countries. Chinese American councillors of New York City Council have also joined in the demonstrations.
People in the wider wider Asian Community in the United Kingdom have been appalled by the song and they have been denouncing the cruel and racist Tsunami Song by Miss Jones and Todd Lynn aired over Hot 97, the hip hop radio station in New York.
The news of Hot 97's racist tsunami song is filtering through to the tsunami hit countries of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Thailand, South India. People are incensed at the song which goes beyond human decency. The governments of the tsunami hit region have been urged to take the matter up with the US Government as it insults the deaths of so many tsunami victims.
Chinese Americans and other Asian Communities have joined hundreds of Asians in the demonstrations in New York supported by New York City Councillors.
Here are the lyrics:
TSUNAMI SONG
Date aired: Morning of January 18TH-27TH 2005 (multiple airings)
Station call letters: WQHT-New York (Hot 97)
Offending DJs: Miss Jones and Todd Lynn
Offending lyrics:
“There was a time, when the sun was shining bright
So I went down to the beach to catch me a tan
Then the next thing I knew
A wave 20 feet high came and wash your country away
And all at once, you can hear the screaming chinks.
And then no one was save from the wave.
There was Africans drowning, little Chinaman swept away
You can heard god laughing, swim you bitches swim.
So now you're screwed, it's the tsunami,
You better run and kiss your ass awake, go find your mommy
I just saw her float by, a tree right through her head.
And now your children will be sold in child slavery.
(Imitating Micheal Jackson)
"Oh on, please not the kids. I'll pay for all the kids.
all the little Indonesian kid, the little Asian kids, the Chinese kids.
the black, oh well, not the Black kids.
the White kids, the Puerto Rican kids.
I love them all. I'll pay for everything.
I promise I won't touch them."
Chinese Communities all over the world wishing to protest are requested to write to their local American Embassy and to -

I think the song is distasteful and maybe offensive to a lot of people. I also think the song is funny. I believe it was meant as a joke to mock Michael Jackson and his child molesting case. Furthermore Miss Jones and Crew are not the only offensive radio personalities and some actually make it rich doing so ex: Howard Stern. Finally no one in NY said anything about the song until it was brought to Florida attention.
crackhead, people donating actually have compassion, something that you nor miss jones have. Now just piss off and take your welfare money to buy some good ol fried chicken.
This comment is to 'That Sister'. After reading some if the idiotic comments by the morons who have nothing insightful to say and are just trying 'to stir the pot' and dismissing them for the crap they are, I must say I am disturbed by the comments made by That Sister, who I feel deserves the "MVR" award (Most Vile Racist) on this board. Your last post illustrates why differences and rifts between races exist. To say that "blacks are envied for their color, figures and take-no-shit-attitudes" may be one of the most racist statements ever made. But since it was made by another black, then it was okay. Maybe I should tell a few of the gentlemen (scientists and doctors....who happen to be black) that their positive contributions to society, the beautiful families they raised and the incredible education that they completed (and provided them with the greatest tool of power - knowledge) are not why they are admired.
Leave it to 'That Sister' to list superficial attributes as a reason to be admired.
You stated the "Asians are the smartest and most dedicated people living today"; while this statement compliments the 'Asians' (who I'm sure don't need your reassurance to feel good about their lives) it also shows your glaring ignorance and shallow view of the people in this world. I know several whites, blacks and asians who are very dedicated to living moral lives and are very 'smart'. Perhaps you should pay tribute to the effort made by any person who is educated. All people have access to schools and education, it is the effort made by the individual and the positive influence of their families that make a person 'smart', not the color of their skin!!
Of course, the whites, well they have 'supremacy' (once again showing a complete lack of self-confidence which seems to be one of the many reasons why you (specifically you) have been 'kept down') and are responsible for the KKK. Well here's a news flash sister, just as not all black men are drug-selling, woman-beating, violent criminals; not all white men are cross-burning, hood-wearing KKK members.
And of course, predictably, you want to leave everything to the 'man upstairs' to sort it out. Well, HE wants YOU to sort it out; God helps those who help themselves. Too often religion is used as a crutch by the mentally weak to give meaning or substance to something their mind cannot comprehend, when actually usually all it takes is information, knowledge and logic to determine the cause and solution of a problem.
Well "that sister" you are truly a blinded by ignorance racist. Hell, I'm sure the man in your life is constantly reminded by you that he is no good, that he's a bum, that you don't need no man. Don't you think this ultimately does more harm than good? Don't you think when someone is told something continuously, they start not only believing it but living the image?
If this all doesn't "add up" for you, why don't you ask an Asian. Afterall, by your logic (or lack of it) they are good at math and really smart.
Or maybe a Jew, they are good with money, right?
Or how about a black, hell they 'don't take no shit'
I usually don't post but after reading the comments on this page and throwing up in my mouth after reading the pearls of wisdom from That Sister, I felt compelled to write. Thanks for the vent, peace to everyone and mercy on the souls of the Tsunami victims
-- Concerned Citizen
We can all condemn the stupidity of the song, the radio station and its sponsors. However, nothing in our society will get better until we stop defning ourselves by our race, in our comments. As human beings, we all find the song offensive. Yet we cause segregation by referring to ourselves as African-American, Asian-America. If we truly want to move towards unity, we should all refer to ourselves as Disgusted & Offended Americans.

This Comment is to the concerned citizen. YOu need to read what I wrote and how I wrote it. I never said that there are not many different people in the world that have a good education, job and family but that is not why they are envied or hated on. IT is for the superficial that is my point. People are jealous of things in other people that they do not have themselves. GO to the 3 top high schools in New York. Find out what ethnic group dominates the population. America deals with mostly visuals and that is the problem. Why do men approach a certain female, or buy a certain house, drive a certain car?? The answer is everyone deals with visuals. Most people are out for themselves and when they become successful they find successful people to hang out with. This is definitely a problem wiht my people. I don't act like this, I give to my friends in need. I help them out and try to change the cycle not just talk about it.
I actually took the time and read the responses indicated in this thread. Frightened by your ignorance's response was well stated. There is one problem in this country that frightens me the most. Young people, and I take it that most of us in this thread are young, are participating more than ever in this bullshit that has kept this country continuously at the low points that it endeavors. it seems that as soon as a black woman was at the height of a stupid ass mockery song, everyone wants to get involved with the slurring and hatred. I bet (and statistics shows) that 75% of the youth in this country doesnt know a damn thing about the area where the tsunami hit. If you did, you didnt care, until the COMPASSION tag was being handed out to folks, that's when everyone started jumping on the bandwagon.
yes there are atrocities that happen in this counrty everyday that need to be dealt with, but do we as uh-mericans really expect that we will take an internal concern and deal with domestic issues? well the threads indicate that we can't start with the basics. someone mentioned COMPASSION earlier, whites didnt start thinking about compassion until they learned that other uh-mericans were in the areas, and that you could claim a tax write-off for contribution. It's funny how the hurricane victims in Florida didnt rec a huge amount of charity, and shit, it's in this country!
Secondly, we as young people are making the bigots job in this counrty alot easier to embark on, with all of the hatred our generation commits. This country supposedly has gone 40+ years backwards and the ship is steadily sinking. Alot of folks jumped on the oppurtunity to be internet cowards and state their little piece, and the cowrdice that all of you display, just shows how de-generate we're heading. If alot of you knew your background and the idiots who bred this mentality, then you would know that at sometime in their lives they regretted all of the stupidity that they helped build. Most of it started in the south and migrated it's way to north, then back south and then out west until ignorance prevailed all over this nation. Ladies and gentlemen, that shit sould have died off long time ago, but "no", they went to their graves happily knowing just how idiotic their offspring would become, that some of them happily obliged, even through suffrage and damnation!! I said all this to say, these are the types of anti-bigotry messages that YOU WILL become familiar with, because people like myself, and the other educated elite, will surely wipe ya'll asses off the map. I use this language because I know you have to reach people where they are. I am young and there are plenty of real citizens that outweigh you ignorant asses in this country whether you like to admit or not. I am a proud, educated African-American, male who witnessed alot of b.s. cease, due to my service in the military, and I know the good that can come out of people, as long as they want it to shine. Shame on all of us young Uh-mericans, that continue to keep this fore-father bull shit ignorance prevailing. we are better than that, and we should stop letting ELITE white males (who control everything) spin a web of deceit, to pit us against one another. Black, white, asian, hispanic and others, our generation need to get it together!!!
STOPID PEOPLE POTIN THIS
