freezing fog behaves just like freezing rain. Both are water droplets that remain liquid even though their temperature is below freezing. Both freeze upon contact with any object, like the ground, and create a thin layer of ice. This storm is really complicated. The fog is forming in a layer of warm air a couple of thousand feet above the ground.

Re: Freezing fog In Alaska (specifically Fairbanks), ice fog (which may or may not be the same thing) is what happens when smog freezes. Must be a thrill to breathe that stuff.

I was dawdling about, drinking coffee, around noon. I looked outside and said, "Yeah, better hit the store now, not later on this afternoon." The store was a hot mess, but I got out unscathed. I've got the all the basics: hot chocolate, chili ingredients, beer, pancakes & bacon. I'm set for a snow day. I'm making a big vat of chili and some cornbread. Tomorrow I'll try to plunge into Prospect Park for some fun.

Gotta hand it to the weather people. They said from 12:00pm and at 11:45pm, the snow flakes just started here in Eastern Queens. I'm lucky: I Got all my shoping, appointments, and Harcut over by 3:15pm.

heh, I was wondering what freezing fog was too :) I mean I guess I have an idea, considering that it is suspended water vapor and all :)
