When Jamba Juice first moseyed into town, New Yorkers were thrilled. Like most out-of-town drinks (the margarita, a Starbucks coffee), Jamba Juice was welcomed with a fervor equal to that of a sample sale. They even had bananas playing the bongos, to tempt us! But now, in the winter of our mothereffing cold blast, Gothamist feels Scott Heiferman's Jamba Juice thoughts might be on the money. He writes:
Over the past decade, I`d often travel to California and always pay a visit to a Jamba Juice. I`d crave Jamba Juice when home in NYC. I`d think, "Wouldn`t it be great if there were a Jamba Juice near home or work?" Now, Jamba Juice is popping up all over NYC, and they just opened one very close to my office. But something ain`t right. I`m not feeling it. The problem is: Jamba Juice is California. In California, the staff and customers are California. The California sun shines into the stores there. You get your juice and step outside into California air. Here, the people aren`t California. The staff is thinking: "I don`t know what this California shit is." The customers look baffled at the hippy menu. Take your Jamba Juice out into winter cold in your winter jacket? NYC grit makes it taste differently. Is having a frosty 'n' fruity drink the way to warm your winter bellies? Or are you sticking to hot chocolate or hot toddies? Perhaps Jamba Juice should look into offering those UV lights, for people who have Seasonal Affective Disorder.

last winter I worked in San Jose and just outside our complex there was a Jamba Juice and i would go every so often (okay maybe 3 times a week) and the days that i went back into my cubical becouse of the AC i would get so cold that after i finished i would have to take in a hot chocolate to warm back up. but if i stayed out side everything was dandy.
also i've noticed that in the time square Jamba juice the "welcome to Jamba" they shout are more muted then the san jose ones and sometimes i can't tell if their refering to me or just shouting out like the drunk guy on my stoop.
Now if they would just open up an In n' Out Burger here that would make this city a much better place...
what mike c said, times ten.
how much is jamba juice in the city? i just assumed that it was way overpriced like six or seven dollars. in los angeles they're like four bucks..every shake ive ever ordered in manhattan has been like six bucks, except for the deli on 116th and 3rd ave they're only like 43 bucks there, they're way good too
that was supposed to be 3
i love jamba juice EXCEPT for that stupid fucking loud mouthed "welcome to jamba!!!" shit. it is such a turn off to have someone forcefully try to ram a smile up your ass. i dont care if its sincere or not, "authentic california" or not. i dont need to be yelled at to be happy. and keep that "have a nice day" shit to yourselves too. their music is too loud also.
I love Jamba Juice. Tastes so good when it hits your lips...
Every weekend I MUST - HAVE - GELATO at Barnes & Noble. Winter or not. And I even have winter squash in the summer. Whoa, is that livin' on the edge or what!
Now if they would only drop a little vodka or patron in the mix.... uhhhh imagine that on a sweaty July Saturday afternoon.... I'm definately bringing my hip flask to the Mercer street location come summer.
Can they put a muffler on the blenders?
Who wants to suck starbucks allllll day long.?
they do own jamba.
I don't see anywhere that Jamba Juice is owned by Starbucks. I also grew up in the Bay Area, and had never heard the annoying "Welcome to Jamba Juice" yelled at me until I visited one here. annoying.
Yeah, people spreading goodwill - real annoying.
I am a Jamba Juice addict - crave it everyday. I sometimes interrupt my daily commute to work to go to the one in the whole foods at columbus circle. My favorite is orange dream machine - can never go wrong with it.
I became addicted this past october when i was stationed in Minnesota to work on the Kerry campaign. The folks in St. Paul were so nice that they would give me a medium for the price of small every morning so that I could work harder to make sure Kerry won.
Jamba Juice is good times regardless of where you are. It shouldn't be restricted to a certain region or climate. Everyone should be able to experience and enjoy it. West coast elitists need to step off. Comparing Jamba Juice to Starbucks is not cool. Jamba Juice will never be a Starbucks cuz most people don't crave fruity smoothies like they do caffeine beans.
I am so happy that JJ is opening up everywhere. As long as they maintain the commitment to high quality, we're set.
I miss Orange Julius. And no, I'm not going to Jersey just to drink it again.
If you miss the julius, just go to any half-way decent Dominican or Cuban place and ask for a "morrir sonando" (that's son-yando). The OG OJ.
Forget Jamba Juice...I want that other West coast favorite: Baja Fresh...and I don't want to have to go to Jersey to get it!
I too miss Baja Fresh here in Manhattan. I first discovered the chain while I was on a business trip in San Diego and then hunted down the locations close to my house in Northern California. I love their salsa station full of interesting varieties of the best salsas. Uncle Moe's is the place here for my burrito cravings.
JAMBA JUICE IS SISTER COMPANY TO STARBUCKS... YOU GUYS ARE ALL IN DENIAL. SAYING EWWW TO THE "STARBUCKS" BUT THEN RUNNING ACROSS THE STREET TO GET A JAMBA JUICE. HOW IGNORANT IS THAT!!!!
