Bovine Brooklyn

2005_01_bklyncow.jpg

Have you ever been confused with your cuts of meat? Or what Brooklyn neighborhoods are where? Well, these two mysteries collide in this amazing shirt from Mister Chen's Outstanding Apparel. Gothamist wants one, as well as some Porterhouse steak, which is approximately at the Park Slope-Kensington border, according to this cuts of meat chart. [Here's the city's official map of New York City neighborhoods.]

Aha - callalillie posted about this last year. And Gawker says some kid in Brooklyn is eBaying the shirt he was mugged in... whether this is better than the Virgin Mary toast, it's for you and your Paypal account to decide.

Does anyone have information on contacting Mr. Chen's. I order a tshirt and never received it. I have also attempted to contact the owner & i've not heard anything back. Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I guess The Ridge is not hip enough to merit inclusion on this shirt. No respect. We don't even get our own congressman. We have to share w/ SI. We'll have to live w/ our rep as the gateway to Staten Island. Thats OK. We benefit while the downtown intellegentsia is missing out. (For a great porterhouse checkout Chadwicks in BR.)

Quick, somebody get TB a vacation!

  • TB

Well...if we're going to be nitpicky...it isn't correct in the cuts of meat department eather...there are more divisions (although, granted, the general boundaries are there...but there are more subdivisions).

It's a design problem that they chose to solve in a way that I find unsatisfying. Whatever.

Anyone who says the shirt is inaccurate is only thinking about half of the equation (geography).

    Know your cuts of meat!

Where is Bensonhurst...I understand it is not the staple of Brooklyn anymore like the 70's (hence, Saturday night fever), but those still lingering here instead of retreating to Staten Island would like to be represented.

True, leave Bay Ridge out I don't want another lounge! Bars are fine for me :)

Based on the fact that they link to each other and that the icon of his head looks the same on his site as it does on some of the drawings on Dorothy's (see Donation Derby), I'm willing to bet Mr. Chen and Cat & Girl are in it together.

  • Mr. Chen is apparently ripping off Cat and Girl.

  • TB

Sure it's a cute shirt...but it's completely inaccurate...and it should at least include all of the areas within the specified boundaries...if you're gonna go from williamsburg to coney island, include all of the different parts of town....although it would be better if there was some method to the madness...which areas were included and why...and why certain ones are where...

How is any neighborhood related to meat cuts?

That's the beauty here. just an absurd juxtaposition, not even ironic. but I love it, I just wish it said my part of town.

  • moo

yes, it is witty and it is funny

  • hijiki

seriously, how are brooklyn neighborhoods related to beef cuts? is it witty? is it funny?

  • that cow needs to go to bovine university.

  • freedc_2000

When did Kensington start bordering the slope? Windsor Terrace is in between. Please, please, hipsters, don't come to kensington and think it's like park slope.

    Thank you

You will notice that Greenpoint, Ft. Greene, and Bushwick form the backbone. HINT HINT. Bay Ridge should probably be there too. Oh wait, I'm not supposed to talk about that.

Also notice Carroll Gardens and the slope form the fat belly. Coincidence?

  • Lucy

I'm confused by this--is this supposed to have any sort of geographical signifigance? Is there some gag I'm missing? Why is it on a cow? I live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and I don't have any idea why it's situated on next to Fort Greene here. People will buy anything...

  • i hate it when they dont have the girly tshirt cut.

  • Pezdro

    Shush.

Don't tell people about Bay Ridge. We're trying to keep the hipsters out of here. We don't want them mucking up our low-rent, beautiful, ethnic, filled with awesome fucking resturants neighborhood.

Bay Ridge. Most Underated Neighborhood. Evar.

or they're just not hip. nevertheless, it's a great design shirt that I'm interested in.
