At the risk of outing myself as a subway nerd, 9 will not be used on the 2nd Ave subway. Number routes are only used for IRT lines (7th Ave, Lex Ave and Flushing lines, the ones with smaller trains). All other lines (IND and BMT) use letters. Since the 2nd Ave will use the bigger IND/BMT trains and most likely connect with the Broadway line (Q is expected to be extended uptown via the 63rd St connector), any new 2nd Ave train will get a letter (I'm thinking H or K).
