Cabaret License: This Week's Music Megalist
Hello, music fans! My name is Ben Chappel and I've taken over the reins of Coolfer's legendary music picks column. Please know, before going any further, that Coolfer has enormously large feet for which he orders specially-made size 17 Reebok's Pumps, and I have absolutely no hope of fitting my little Campers into his elephantitic footsteps. I'll do the best I can, though, weekly, in my average-sized eleven-and-a-halfs.
Here, sometime hovering around the beginning of each calendar week, I'll be providing you with a simple wrap-up of what's happening, where to be, what to expect, and, in some cases, special give-aways to help you rock out, dance, stand disaffected in the back of the room, or just generally gain admittance to super-special shows on Gothamist's dime. They don't pay me, so the least I can do is funnel money to you guys.
So, welcome. I hope that my hours of greuling research of all the venue web sites and indie corners of the net yield some semblance of musical bliss in your otherwise defunctory rock/roll lifestyles.
Here are this week's firecrackers:

Let's start out with the attractive canadian twin rock: Tonight, Tegan and Sara will be strumming their "We're young, hip and Ryan Adams loves us" punk-pop melodies for an audience of dancing folks at the Bowery Ballroom. Touring for their newest release, "So Jealous", which, it must be noted, is supported keyboardly by Weezer/Rentals historian, Matt Sharp. They're playing with The Honorary Title and Kimya Dawson.
Tonight is also the first of Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah's three residency shows at Pianos. Also on the bill are Five O'Clock Heroes, The Castanets, The Shore Birds and Pile of Face. If you're really bored, you can get there at 7, get some dinner, and watch 'The Jerk' upstairs for free before the show, presented by Yummy Movie.

Thursday night @ Bowery Ballroom, I think you might want to do yourself a favor and check out Gothamist fave (and the rockstars responsible for a solid quarter of our first Movable Hype show), Asobi Seksu. They'll be the playing the international gala with Razorlight and The Features.
Friday and Saturday nights, old punker favorites Mission of Burma play in support of their newest Matador release, "OnOffOn", at the ever-popular Bowery Ballroom. The Chinese Stars supporting.
Saturday night is The Winter Pageant's record release party at Sin-E. Playing in celebration will be A Place to Bury Strangers and Dirty On Purpose. Pela fans, they'll no longer be playing, due to a death in the family. Sorry.
Also Saturday night is the Dears, Benzos, Saints + Lovers, Headset show @ Mercury. It's sold out, but guess what? Yep, we have a ticket giveaway! Click here to enter.
That's it for this week. Go forth, rock out. Next week is a big one, though, so make sure to use your observance of Dr. King's birthday on Monday to rest up. Until evening, anyway, when your continuous and inebriated presence is required at Movable Hype 1.5. See you there!
