from here: His nickname is fairly obvious. Johnson is 6'10. He was given the nickname during his first major league game with the Montreal Expos. When he stepped on the mound for his first start, teammate Tim Raines exclaimed, "Wow, that's one big unit."

I totally agree "The Big Unit" is a particularly scarey nickname. I know he's 6'10", but is that the origin of the name? Can anyone enlighten me?

What was Johnson expecting? He's a public figure, in town to garner publicity for himself and his team. He chose to walk in public where, legally as I understand it, there is a greatly reduced expectation of privacy. If Johnson wanted privacy I'm sure the Yankees would have arranged an SUV with darkened windows to drive him from his hotel to the doctor's office.

From what I understand, it seems as if Johnson wasn't so much upset about being taped/photographed on the street as he was about having a reporter's lens only inches from his face. Give the guy his space! Isn't that what zoom lenses are for?

Overwhelming? Overwhelming to be one of the greatest pitchers today? Or overwhelming to be a multimillionaire, being paid $16 million a season? Overwhelming to stop whining and finally have his way and play for the Yankees? Cry me a river, Johnson! Also, I want to point out that Johnson's stache looks kinda Hitlerish in some photos...it's actually much wider, but sometimes...
