i went to the big wilco/flaming lips/sleater-kinney show at MSG. it was fun, but not as good as i'd hoped. sleater-kinney were great, 100% new material, but wilco felt flat compared to past shows. might just be that i don't love MSG. I spent a quiet NYE as well. I realized I was kind of "over" making a big fuss about a clock striking midnight. After a brief moment of worry that I'd come off as a loser, I was glad I did exactly what I wanted to do. No paying $$$ for a party at some shitty bar with a "free" glass of crappy champagne; no waiting in interminable bathroom lines (usually with a "peacekeeper" at the door) to use vomit-smelling toilets at said bar; no looking-futilly-for-cab-at-3am; no hangover.

I spent a quiet night at home for New Years. It was the first time I did that in a long time and I really enjoyed myself.
