Scoreboard! - Pats Still Own Jets

2004_12patsnyjscoreboard.jpg

One last must win game. That's what the regular season has come down to for the Jets (10-5, 3-3 AFC East), who again failed to defeat a proven great team yesterday, falling to defending Super Bowl champion New England (10-2, 5-1), 23-7 in East Rutherford yesterday.

So buckle in for a week of "The Jets Don't Have What It Takes" stories leading into next Sunday's road game in St. Louis (1 p.m.), because that's where they have put themselves. And, yes, Gothamist agrees that Chad Pennington's "You should be honored to cover us" diatribe was well-intended, but misdirected (at beat writers rather than the smarmy columnists). If the season goes down in flames, that will no doubt mark the turning point in the media's love affair with him. Oddly enough, he complied with the media better after yesterday's nearly emasculating loss than last week's resounding win.

Also of note, yesterday was a bittersweet evening for Jets great Joe Klecko, the former defensive who became only the fourth person in franchise history to be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor (Gothamist knew two of the other three). Klecko's son Dan has become a solid NFL player with the Pats, despite once being considered too undersized to play big time college football. After all these years, could Joe soon be bound for Canton?

is there an actual ring for the jets? i assume no, since they don't have their own stadium.

also, i was watching some local pregame show and klecko was on it and it looked like he had some major work done on his face. it was stretched so tight.
