Well, for one thing, New Yorkers have actually been known to call their city "Gotham" from time to time. The only people who call San Francsico "Frisco" don't live there; same with Bostonians and "Beantown." Now, Bahstanist, on the other hand, could have some legs...

Oh man. "SFist" is bad, but not as bad as "Friscoist." We San Francisco born-and-raised don't take kindly to the "Frisco" moniker. It's the equivalent of Crazy Crab running around the field at a Giants game...

Why is NY the only city to get a nickname in its 'ist' site (i.e., gothamist)? Why not beanist for Boston or friscoist for san fran, etc.?

I am curious about your image-use policy -- did you change your M.O. recently, b/c it seemed for a long time that you guys sorta indiscriminately used other people's images in your entries. It seems like there were lots of entries in the past that used images from the NYT, the Post, Getty, etc that weren't intended as parody, etc....maybe you had agreements beforehand or understand fair use better than I do, but I was always curious about that....
