The other costumed hawk in the WhatISee photos is Rebekah Chreshkoff. She's been tirelessly dancing for days with a twelve-pound bird-head on her shoulders. I think we need to chip in and get her a gift certificate for a nice massage when this is all done. Newsday was slightly misquoting John and they've since amended their story. Bloomberg has a post-meeting update, and I will keep updating the blog with what I hear and see, for what it's worth. Jo

Newsday quotes John Flicker as saying the spikes are going to return. I haven't gotten confirmation on that--Audubon says EJ will make an announcement at the 4:30 vigil today. Hope the Newsday story is accurate. I'll post more details as I get them. -Jo p.s.- I don't believe the "death threats" for a minute. Unless you take literally the guy at Sunday's rally who quipped "Eat the rich." Shmulewitz (who equated "they should do to you what you did to those hawks" with a "death threat" even though the hawks were evicted, not murdered) is a pussy who thinks the sky is falling, and whoever thought Lincoln's crossing the street and shouting in the doorman's face amounted to a "death threat" is either deliberately distorting the truth or is perhaps a bit too wigged out by angry dark-skinned men. Clearly Lincoln shouldn't have crossed the street chanting "Bring back the nest" while a child was around, and apologies were immediately made, but he did not threaten to harm anyone (I was there). Lincoln loves children, and no one has brought more delight to children in Central Park than he. "There are two young boys (5-6 years old) that live on the 3rd floor of 927 Fifth Ave who sit all evening in the bay of the middle window and wave to me. These boys always visit the scope with their nanny and absolutely adore the birds. Today the older one came downstairs to collect a DVD of Frederic Lilien's Pale Male as I offered it to him from across the street. This building has several children who are all so sweet and innocent and who I know, if they are anything like these two boys, will never grow up to be like their parents. i wonder what "death threats" the guy is talking about. I read another story on this over the weekend where someone, maybe Cohen, I can't recall, said that he had received a "death threat" which consisted of a message that said "We will do to you what you did to the hawks" now, that does sound like a threat--a threat to destroy the anti-hawkite's home-- and such a threat is not ok, but it's not a death threat. I think this guy is full of crap about his kid getting death threats. People shouldn't harrass this kid--and should refrain any real heated yelling at Cohen or Zahn if their kid is with them (ie, it;s ok to yell out "hey, cohen bring the nest back!" but not "hey, you bastard, you are an elitist, selfish piece of crap" unless the guy is NOT with his kid.) Threats are never ok with or without the kid present, but again, I really doubt he's received an actual death threat-at least not from a bird-lover---birders are not violent and not stupid.
